Form 2 Prodigy Scores Big: Samuel Taruvinga Secures Full-Ride Scholarship to Bikita
HARARE – Samuel Taruvinga, a bright Form 2 student and rising athlete, is headed for Bikita after clinching a prestigious full-ride scholarship to Makamba Secondary School.
The 15-year-old, who previously attended Dzivarasekwa 1 High School, has become a standout example of how early-stage talent can be fast-tracked through dedicated mentorship and hard work.
The Road to Success
Taruvinga’s transition from his home in Kuwadzana Extension to one of Bikita’s notable schools wasn't a solo effort. His "dream team" of mentors played a pivotal role in securing the deal:
Lucky “Wasu” Mangweka: His personal coach, who has been instrumental in refining his technical skills.
Motion Manhembe: The UZ Wildcats HC captain, who provided the high-level advocacy needed to get the young Form 2 student noticed.
Why This Matters
Securing a full-ride scholarship at the Form 2 level is exceptionally rare in the local sports landscape. Typically, such opportunities are reserved for senior students (Form 4 or A-Level), making Taruvinga’s achievement a significant breakthrough.
> "For a Form 2 student to receive this kind of backing is a game-changer," said a source close to the athlete. "It allows him to integrate into a high-performance environment early, balancing his academics and his sports career before the pressure of national exams begins."
This move is expected to serve as a blueprint for other young athletes in Harare’s high-density suburbs, proving that with the right support, the sky is the limit—even before reaching the mid-point of high school.
