Gender Based Violence: More than a slap
Some of the GBV scars women carry are a result of the opportunities that were snatched from them because of the roles they play in the society. Those opportunities remain a dream because of the people who sat on the other side of the table.
Today as we start the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence, my mind goes back to the times I was taken aback by the comments made the people I encountered in my journey. In 2018, my membership for one of the global voluntary organisations was rejected because I had a child at home (I still low-key resent that organization🤣). I also had a manager who refused to assign a project to me because "kufa kwemurume hubuda ura" (the project didn't complete at the hands of the abled man and we lost the customer 🙃). At there was a customer who blatantly told me that they needed a male engineer to implement their projects (that jumpstarted my journey as an architect🥳). Recently I was told to choose between my family and my career and well I had to prove that there are priority levels that can't be compromised.
And then, there was one hero, a leader who understood that during the lockdown I had to balance my work and caring for myself and my toddler. All he wanted were met targets regardless of the time of the day I did the tasks. That man, DB, made the workplace suitable for parents and he got the targets met with high satisfaction.
It is time we start allowing women flourish whilst serving differently. Her abilities are not taken away from her because she has become a wife or a mother. Let us rise as a society and support our women and girls as they serve their families, organisations and communities. The fate of every girl or woman lies in the hands of those seated on the other side of the table.
Make their moments count. Stop GBV by ensuring that opportunities are awarded on merit not on gender!

Dear Young Wife
Some of the problems you're facing are a result of the turmoil in your thoughts. You start seeing your husband and as a foe because you're continuously feeding your mind with stories of how other men are letting down their wives. You subconsciously start seeing every act as a red flag.
In this season, align your thoughts and prayers with the vision you want. Renew your mind and speak your vision into reality.
Philippians 4:8: "Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things".

There's no situation that is beyond the reach of God's light. It may look gloomy today but always remember that God is a call away. He will address each and every one of your situations and make them align with His will and your prosperous future.
Keep trusting Him.

Dear Young Wife
Contain your anxiety...
Marriage brings lots of uncertainties and emotional moments. Sometimes the turmoil within us is what blows all situations and brings chaos in the home. You need to remain calm in all the turmoil so you can address issues with a sober mind and create a happy environment for yourself and your family.
Develop hobbies and habits that help you keep your emotions in check. You will not get it right on the first day but do not stop trying. You got this!

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Dear Young Wife
Watch and pray!
Life can be complicated and sometimes it drowns you. Most of the times we bury ourselves in a debris from by our thoughts and words.
When you watch and pray, it doesn't mean that you have taken a passive stance to life. It means that you are intentionally taking a moment to digest the situation before you respond.
So the next time you feel like responding with a whole flood of words or your mind takes you on a journey into the thick woods of negativity, try to watch and pray.
Understand the situation, give it to its Owner in prayer, breathe, then respond!
James 1:19-20 NIV
[19] My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, [20] because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.

Dear Young Wife
You have the role of being the source of calm in the household. However, you can not be an effective source of calm if you are not in a place of calm.
It is imperative that you embark on a journey to your place of peace and calm. The journey will not be easy, but you need it. You may encounter some stones along the way. You might get stung by bees while you admire the flowers on the path, but don't let that stop you.
As you journey on, remember to be graceful. Each step you take will leave a print in the hearts of the people in your care.

Dear Young Wife
God is faithful enough to remember the covenant He made to you. The journey may be long, and the delay may be discouraging, but always remember that it is part of your preparation.
Stop comparing your journey to that of others and stop murmuring. Find your solace in continuous thanksgiving, and do not stop thanking God for taking you this far.
