Yesterday, Sunday 26 March, we concluded the third edition of the JR Mawere Memorial Chess Championship.
I would like to congratulate the winners in all the sections.
In the Open Section, the experienced National Team player - Spencer Masango dominated the field with an unbeaten 8.5/9 points!
In the Ladies Section it was the duo of Christine Makwena and Colletah Wakuruwarewa who also finished with 8.5/9 after drawing with each other in the 5th round. Makwena was the eventual winner due to a better tiebreak.
The Best U20 players were Tawanda Mhako and Grace Zvarebwa for the Open and Ladies Section respectively.
Thanks to everyone who come out to support and participate in the event. We hope to keep the tournament growing with each year.
A huge thank you also goes to the sponsor and the Mawere family for embracing our sport and the commitment to make the event an annual tournament!
