Every year, a lot of food goes to waste because of lack of innovations that preserve and add value to excess food produced at peak. Communities can build these solar driers in order to make food and nutrients available even when such fruits and vegetables out of season. That is, when excess mangoes, guavas, peaches and seasonal vegetables such as black jack and amaranth are in in excess, instead of losing these fruits and vegetables to rot and inferior price regimes by the middlemen, communities can always value add any excess which they cannot sell or consume immediately through solar drying. Building capacity of teachers through training, provision of resources and promotion of innovations is a critical tool for responding to Climate Change related development challenges. There is need for developing home grown solutions that use locally available resources which are inspired by local Indigenous Knowledge Systems. i have come to think that the definition of "climate change" must be changed to mean development change...we should be putting more money to development rather than focusing on changing climate variables which apparently i believe the world of science cannot do anything about....what we can change is our level of development and the climate can never be altered by convincing poor rural communities to stop using firewood, use cleaner technologies which they cannot afford...

Climate Change is real...the best we can do in Africa, Zimbabwe in particular, is to strengthen our mitigation and adaptation strategies that hinge on effective use of Indigenous Knowledge Systems' inspired innovations, creations and structures!!

The world got it all wrong perhaps when dealing with climate change...mitigation and adaptation and more reactive in nature.
