Nkayi fight back to earn a point

Nkayi United................... (0)1
Hwange............................(1)1

Substitute Tino Chitete rose from the bench to fire home the equaliser for Nkayi United, salvaging a point for the team in a Pacific Breeze Southern Region Soccer League match played at Chiefs Village this afternoon.

Nkayi conceded early in the 13th minute when Hwange striker Morestuff Ncube headed the visitors in front, beating goalkeeper Yousuf Chisara.

However, Nkayi brought themselves into the game by displaying exciting football, with Michael Ndlovu outstanding on the right flank. His crosses troubled the Hwange defence.

Cleopas Dube should have thrust Nkayi in front, heading wide from a close-range cross after nine minutes of action, with the goal yawning, but the striker failed to pick his spot as Peter Mushure was at sea.

In the second half, Ndlovu sent two tantalising crosses that the team failed to capitalise on soon after the resumption of play.

Chitete then came on to replace Cleopas Dube, and within five minutes of being on the pitch, he drew the team level, sparking wild celebrations in the crowd. His shot deflected off a Hwange defender and sailed into the net.

Assistant coach Khonzani Ncube felt that it was two points dropped for his team. "Looking at this game, I would say it's two points dropped. We created better chances which we should have utilised," said Ncube.

"It was a game of two halves. They had a good opening few minutes, but we came back into the game and dominated possession. We dominated possession until halftime, and I feel we should have scored considering the chances we created. We were also better in the second half and we got the equaliser," said Ncube.

Nkayi moved to nine points from five matches as the team maintained unbeaten start to the season.

Nkayi travel to BlackRock next week in Hwange.
