Growing Health, Growing Communities: Jafuta Foundation’s Chaya Initiative at Wild Bhiza

Wild Bhiza was honored to host the Jafuta Foundation for a special community event focused on the promotion of chaya, a highly nutritious leafy vegetable that is helping improve food security and nutrition across Zimbabwe.

The gathering brought together community members, partners, and stakeholders to learn about the many benefits of chaya and its role in building healthier, more resilient communities. Through practical demonstrations and discussions, participants explored how this climate-smart crop can be grown sustainably and incorporated into everyday meals to improve household nutrition.

As a drought-tolerant and high-yielding plant, chaya has the potential to support families with a reliable source of vitamins, minerals, and protein while also creating opportunities for income generation through community gardens and small-scale enterprises.

Hosting this event reflects Wild Bhiza’s commitment to supporting initiatives that empower local communities, promote environmental sustainability, and encourage knowledge sharing. We are proud to partner with organizations such as the Jafuta Foundation that are making a lasting impact through education, conservation, and community development.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Jafuta Foundation, all the participants, and everyone who contributed to the success of the event. Together, we are cultivating healthier communities and a more sustainable future—one chaya plant at a time.

Misty arrived from South Africa as a young horse… and four months later she surprised us with a foal we didn’t even know was coming. Meet Mshango.

Out here near Victoria Falls, the herd moves together — and you can’t leave a foal behind at the stables, not with the wild so close. So Mshango grew up the Wild Bhiza way: out on real ground, following his mum, learning life one dusty track at a time.

When he turned three, we didn’t overcomplicate it. We chucked a saddle on.
Day 1: climbed on — walk and trot, no drama.
Day 3: we were out hacking… like he’d been doing it forever.

Donald absolutely adores this funny-looking little horse (and honestly, we get it). We still don’t know who his dad is… maybe a mule. Either way, Mshango is pure Wild Bhiza: unexpected, tough, and completely unforgettable.

🐓🌊 My Life Between the Village and the Falls 🌊🐓

Most people visit Victoria Falls and leave with photos and a souvenir. I get to actually live here — and my days look nothing like the tourist brochures.

Every morning I make the drive out to Wild Bhiza Stables, about 30 minutes from town, where the horses live among the village homesteads. There’s something grounding about that journey — leaving behind the lodges and curio sellers, heading out to where real life happens. Where chickens share the yard with horses, where kids wave from the roadside, where the pace slows down and the land opens up.

The horses are part of the community out there. They live alongside the families, in the rhythm of village life — and working with them in that environment is something special. It’s not a manicured equestrian centre. It’s real, and earthy, and alive.

I spend my days at the stables — riding, training, caring — and then as the afternoon light starts to soften, I make that 30-minute drive back to Victoria Falls. The roar of the Zambezi welcomes me home every evening.

It’s the best of two worlds. Village rhythms by day. The thunder of the Falls by night. šŸ™
