Here's what most runners get wrong: you don't get fitter during the run. The run is just the stress. The actual building — muscle repair, energy stores topping back up, your training finally "sticking" — happens while you sleep.
Skip it, and you're training hard for gains your body never gets to bank. Cue the heavy legs, the slower paces, and that "why is every run a grind?" feeling.
So treat sleep like a session:
→ Aim for 7–9 hours, not just on weekends
→ Cool, dark room (crank the AC — it's a Gulf summer)
→ Screens off 30 minutes before bed
→ Hard training day? Protect that night's sleep hardest
You can't out-train bad sleep. Build the run, then let the pillow finish the job. 🔗
How many hours are you really getting? Be honest. 👇

Motivation is a great feeling — right up until 5am, when the bed is comfortable and the heat outside is not. Here's the truth every consistent runner learns: motivation clocks out. It shows up when it's easy and disappears the second things get hard.
Discipline doesn't take days off. It's not loud or exciting. It's just you, lacing up when you don't feel like it, logging the run nobody will clap for. That's the whole secret. Not more hype — more showing up.
So on the mornings the spark isn't there, don't wait for it. Move first. The feeling catches up later.
What gets you out the door when motivation's gone? Drop it below. 👇

"How do I know if I'm actually improving?" You don't — unless you track it. 📲

Watch your weekly distance and see your progress build over time. In a brutal training month like July, that visible streak is sometimes the only thing that gets you out the door.
What you can do:
→ log every run (treadmill miles count!)
→ track your weekly + monthly totals
→ spot patterns — when do you run best? What's working?
→ set a target and watch the gap close
The runners who improve fastest aren't guessing. They're looking at their own numbers.

Your legs are tired, your last long run left you sore, but you don't want to lose momentum. This is where the bike earns its place. Cycling builds the same aerobic engine running does — without the pounding — which makes it the smartest cross-training a runner in Dubai can do.
The best cycling routes in Dubai are sorted by how hard you want to work.

That sharp ache down your shins after a run? Don't run through it. Here's the fix.

Shin splints are your body flagging too much, too soon — common when new runners ramp up fast or seasoned runners change surfaces (hello, treadmill summer).
How to prevent and ease them:
→ follow the 10% rule — don't increase weekly distance by more than ~10%
→ check your shoes — worn-out cushioning is a top culprit
→ strengthen calves + shins (toe raises, heel walks)
→ run on softer surfaces when you can
→ If it's sharp or one-sided, rest and get it checked — pain isn't toughness
Injury sidelines more runners than laziness ever will. Protect the streak.

You will never feel "ready" for the big leap, so stop waiting for it.

Progress in running isn't a heroic transformation — it's boring, tiny, repeated wins. One more minute without walking. One more morning, you got up. One km faster than last month. None of them feels like much on the day. All of them, stacked, become the runner you're trying to become.
The people who stick with this don't have more motivation than you. They've just made the bar so low to start that quitting feels harder than going.
So today, don't aim for impressive. Aim for done. Small win. Then again tomorrow.
What's one small win you're claiming today?

July is UV Safety Awareness Month — and out here, that's not a side note. It's a survival kit. ☀️

The Gulf sun isn't just hot; it's intense, and runners are out in it more than most. a few non-negotiables:
☀️ SPF 30+, reapplied — sweat washes it off
🕶️ UV-blocking sunglasses (your eyes burn too)
🧢 cap or visor + light, covering fabrics
⏰ Best move? run before sunrise and skip peak UV entirely (10 am–4 pm)
Protecting your skin today is protecting the body that's going to carry you through years of running. This is long-game stuff.
How do you sun-proof your runs? Share your tips for the newer runners below.
