Our curiosity starts from the very first conversation we have on an initial enquiry. Because it is not simple and every single child is different. Here is what our team are going to ask you!
1. What are your goals OR what are you hoping to get out of sessions?
2. What does your child LOVE?
3. Do they struggle with regulation?
4. Have they got any sensory preferences?
5. Are there any behaviours you are concerned about?
This will help us identify the best place to start. This information will get passed on to our clinician you are booked in with and they will unpack from a clinical perspective when they call to introduce themselves and start the intake.
We have a very specific intake that sets children, families and our clinicians up for success.

When I started Kids Heart Pilates, I wanted to reach as many children as possible. Brisbane first. Then beyond. Through our partnership with the ProActive clinic network, KHP programs are now being delivered by trained practitioners across regional Victoria, regional Queensland, the Gold Coast, and South Australia.
We are training practitioners so that the quality of paediatric movement support is not limited by postcode.
If you are a family looking for KHP-aligned support outside Brisbane or a practitioner wanting to bring this work to your region, link in bio.

When a child melts down, refuses to participate, or shuts down completely in a therapy session, the instinct is to manage the behaviour.
Don't.
It is OK. It is in these moments that we are getting the most information that will fuel our approach.
We learn so much more from children that don't mask, so don't stress and try and reframe those uncomfortable moments. Absolutely no judgement here.
We never will start with the behaviour. We ask: what is this behaviour communicating? Difficulties with regulation is not defiance. Avoidance is not laziness. Shutdown is not stubbornness.
These are signals from a nervous system that is working hard to cope. Our clinicians are trained to read those signals and to respond with curiosity before correction. Swipe to understand what behaviour might be trying to tell you. Then reach out if you'd like us to take a closer look.

We come out to your child, at home or in their place of learning. This can be really effective as it allows us to see what is happening in real life experiences not a controlled clinic setting.
Not one approach will work for every child. So flexibility is key.

One family initially came to us concerned about coordination and “clumsiness.”
But through assessment and sessions, we identified broader challenges with:
• Core strength
• Postural endurance
• Bilateral coordination
• Motor planning
Over time, not only did movement improve, but so did:
✔ Sitting tolerance
✔ Confidence in the classroom
✔ Participation
✔ Attention and engagement
Research continues to show strong links between movement and development, including language, learning, regulation, and cognitive skills. This is why we take a holistic approach to paediatric movement therapy at Kids Heart Pilates.

The goal of paediatric supports should not simply be ticking therapy boxes.
It should be helping children participate more confidently in everyday life.
That might mean:
• Joining sport
• Keeping up on the playground
• Managing transitions
• Improving endurance for school days
• Feeling more confident socially
• Developing body awareness and regulation
• Participating in community activities
At Kids Heart Pilates, we use movement to support these real-world outcomes.
Which is why Exercise Physiology can play such an important role within NDIS supports for children.
Because movement is connected to so much more than physical health alone.

One of the biggest misconceptions in early childhood is that movement sits separate to learning.
But movement supports:
✔ Attention
✔ Emotional regulation
✔ Social engagement
✔ Language development
✔ Cognitive processing
✔ Motor planning
✔ Classroom participation
At Kids Heart Pilates, we use movement intentionally to support holistic child development across physical, cognitive, sensory, emotional, and social domains.
This is why we are so passionate about working alongside educators and early learning centres.
