We’ve shown you the photos, shared some of the dancing and said our thank yous… but there’s a little more to the story of Dance Canberra. 💜🪩

So, one more look back — this time at the why behind it all.

Dance Canberra came from a pretty simple idea: creating more opportunities for adult dancers to learn, be challenged and experience everything the dance world has to offer.

With the support of the ACT Government, we got to bring that idea to life for the first time in 2026 — and this is a little glimpse of what that looked like. 🥹

We’re pretty proud of this one. 💜

Sunday Concert Throwback ✨

We’re taking it all the way back to 2020 and our concert, Tomorrow!
It was definitely a different kind of concert year. With COVID restrictions in place, we couldn’t have a full-capacity theatre and concert season looked quite different to the way it does today.

Back then, we didn’t have dedicated concert enrolments either — our dancers learnt and rehearsed their routines during their regular casual classes! 🤯

A lot has changed in six years, but one thing definitely hasn’t — there’s nothing quite like seeing our dancers take to the stage. 💚

Over the next few Sundays, we’ll be taking a little trip through 6th Position concert history as we count down to Of Myth & Magic this November ✨

Another Floriade done! 🌸💚

What an amazing afternoon we had taking to Stage 88! A huge congratulations to all of our dancers — from Ballet, Hip Hop, Tap, Lyrical and our Teens and Performance Troupe — you absolutely smashed it!

We’re so proud of everyone who performed and so thankful to the wonderful crowd who stopped to watch, cheer and support our dancers. There’s something pretty special about getting to perform right in the middle of Floriade! 🌷

A little look inside our Tuesday Silver Swans class 🦢✨

Our Tuesday class is Advanced Beginner level, perfect for dancers who have some ballet experience and are looking to keep moving, build confidence and enjoy dancing in a welcoming environment.

Can you believe it’s already time to start concert prep?! ✨🧚‍♀️🌿

This week our studios start transforming as we officially begin rehearsals for OF MYTH & MAGIC!

We cannot wait to see this year’s pieces start coming to life and spend the next few months dancing, creating and getting ready for the stage. ✨

Just a little friendly reminder that with concert classes now underway, our reduced casual timetable has also begun.

If you’re not participating in concert, don’t worry — there are still plenty of opportunities to dance with us! Just make sure you check the timetable before heading to class, as some of our regular classes have paused or changed during concert season. 💚

🌷 WE’RE PERFORMING AT FLORIADE! 🌷

Tomorrow, 6th Position is taking to Stage 88 as part of Floriade’s opening weekend, with performances from our Lyrical, Teens, Performance Troupe, Tap, Hip Hop and Ballet dancers!

We’re so excited to bring a little bit of 6P to one of Canberra’s biggest events and give our dancers another opportunity to do what they love — PERFORM! ✨

Today is R U OK? Day 💛

Sometimes checking in can be as simple as asking a question, sharing a chat before class, or being there for someone when they need it.

Dance gives us so much more than movement. It gives us connection, community and a space to show up exactly as we are — on the good days and the not-so-good ones.

So today, and every day, take a moment to check in with the people around you.

Ask, “R U OK?” and make time to really listen.

And that’s a wrap on Dance Canberra 2026! 🪩💜

What. A. Weekend.

It’s taken us a little while to properly wrap this one up, but we couldn’t let Dance Canberra go by without saying a very big THANK YOU to everyone who made it what it was.

Dance Canberra was created with a pretty simple idea — to give adult dancers the opportunity to learn from incredible artists, challenge themselves, try something new and experience the kind of workshops and opportunities that aren’t always readily available to adults.

And seeing that idea come to life across the weekend was pretty special. 🥹

To every dancer who joined us — whether you came for one class, a few, or somehow made it through all eight 😂 — thank you. Thank you for showing up, giving things a go, supporting our visiting artists and filling our studios with so much energy. We loved seeing familiar 6P faces alongside dancers from across Canberra and beyond, all sharing the studio together.

A HUGE thank you to our incredible Dance Canberra artists — Stephen Tannos, JW Murray, Matthew & Anna Bindley, Demi Jenkins, Dylan Bull, Jasmin Durham and Halimah Kyrgios.

Thank you for sharing not only your talent, but your knowledge, experience and time so generously with our dancers. We feel incredibly lucky to have had such an amazing group of artists under our roof for the weekend.

We also want to say a very important thank you to the ACT Government for supporting Dance Canberra through grant funding. This support helped make an event like this possible and allowed us to bring these opportunities to Canberra’s adult dance community. We’re incredibly grateful to have been given the chance to turn this little idea of ours into something real. 💜

And, of course, thank you to everyone behind the scenes who helped us pull the weekend together. Events like this take a LOT of work, and we’re so grateful to everyone who played a part in making it happen.

At 6th Position, we believe adult dancers deserve opportunities to learn, perform, be challenged and experience everything the dance world has to offer — no matter when they started dancing or where they are in their dance journey.

Dance Canberra was a pretty wonderful reminder of just how special Canberra’s adult dance community is.

We’re so proud to be the home of adult dance in Canberra, and we really hope this isn’t the last Dance Canberra. 👀🪩
