With the winter sports season coming to an end, our sportsgrounds are shaping up for summer! 🌞

⛔ Most ACT Government irrigated sportsgrounds are temporarily closed from today (Thursday 17 September) until Wednesday 30 September (inclusive) to prepare fields for the summer sport season. 🏏

This work is essential to maintain the 129 sportsgrounds that are used year-round for various sporting groups. Maintenance includes getting fields ready for summer sport activities as well as removing goal posts, top dressing, upgrading the turf and fertilising grass.

Any sporting groups planning to use a closed sportsground before 30 September will need to liaise with their sport peak body who will make the necessary arrangements with the ACT Government.

Synthetic fields and cricket nets are not affected during this period and will remain open.

Have your say on the future of Mawson Playing Fields

The ACT Government is seeking community feedback on plans for the Mawson Group Centre and surrounding area, including the playing fields many Woden teams call home.

Under an option being explored, proposed road works would affect two existing football fields. The ACT Government has discussed replacing them with larger, full-sized fields elsewhere at Mawson, subject to further design work. We’ll keep working with the project team as the plans develop.

If you play, coach, volunteer or spend your weekends on our sidelines, this is your chance to say what matters to you: quality playing fields, safe access, facilities and enough space for community football to grow.

One final celebration for today… the SAP crew. ❤️💙

While the older age groups were busy collecting trophies, the next generation were finishing their season strongly too.

Our SAP Academy U10–U13 teams finished the final round with wins across all four grades. 👏⚽

In fact, six of our seven junior performance-stream teams finished their final round with wins.

From our youngest SAP players through to our championship-winning U16s and U18s, it's been quite the finish to 2026.

Hot on the heels of our U16 and U18 Girls both claiming the double, our Open teams had a pretty handy Grand Final day of their own.

Apparently one double wasn't enough. 😏🏆🏆

Our U18 Div 1 Girls defeated Tigers FC 3–0 in their Grand Final, adding the Championship to their Minor Premiership.

Grand Final Champions ✅

And yes… that means BOTH our U16 and U18 Div 1 Girls have finished 2026 with the double.

Two age groups.
Two Minor Premierships.
Two Championships.

Some seriously talented footballers are coming through the Valley. ❤️💙

🏆 GRAND FINAL CHAMPIONS.

Our U16 Div 1 Girls have done the DOUBLE. ❤️💙

After finishing the season on top of the table, the girls defeated WCW 2–1 in the Grand Final to finish an incredible season as both Minor Premiers AND Champions.

A brilliant season from a brilliant group of footballers.
