Redcliffe Golf Celebrates the 90th Anniversary of the Course Opening

On Sunday, October 25 the Club celebrated the 90th Anniversary of golf being played at our Clontarf site.

Many members joined in the celebration which was highlighted by the unfurling of the Club’s Heritage Flag by our Life Members Eric Oxenford, Dennis Brosnan, and Geoff Miller.

We thank those members who participated in a very important milestone in our Club’s history.

The 2026 Redcliffe Junior Championship final was played on Sunday 11 Oct 2026, thank you to long term sponsor Scott Colhoun AEGIS Sales & Service.

Peyton Murphy and Bradley Hartly took place in the final after winning their respective quarter final and semi-final matches. The final was played over 36 holes of scratch match play. Both boys started very well however Peyton took the early lead and was four up after the first 18 holes. After a short brake the boys went out for the second 18 holes and again both boys started well however the momentum started to swing Bradley's way late in the match and after wins on 16 and 17 (the 34th and 35th holes) Bradley headed to the 36th hole one down, for the first time in 36 holes Bradley's drive missed the fairway right and ended up in the penalty area with Peyton finding the fairway near the bunker. Bradley's recovery found the fairway bunker and Peyton hit his second shot onto the green about three meters from the flag. Bradley again demonstrated his determination almost holing his chip for par, however Peyton was able to two putt for par and win the match 2 up.

Congratulations to both boys the match was played in great spirit and they both played great golf the boys are 14 and 12 so I am sure there will be a friendly rivalry between them for years to come.

Congratulations to Peyton Murphy the 2026 Redcliffe Golf Club Junior Champion.

Last Thursday, 24 September, the Bent Wood Trophy challenge between RGC and Headland GC Women celebrated 40 years of competition. The inter-club challenge has been running continuously since 1986. Its inception grew from a social game between RGC Helen Chapman and a former HGC member who devised a 'bent wood' as the perpetual trophy (see below). As this year's host, HGC women's hospitality was cordial and welcoming. The day was celebrated with a gifted anniversary cake (see below). The course presented perfect golf conditions. However, bunkers and ponds proved to be deterrents. With its home course advantage, the HGC convincingly retained the trophy with dominating results. RGC was well represented by a strong team of 30 women who must be commended for their friendly rivalry. Congratulations to Lynne Taylor and Frances Mewett (37 pts) who were Redcliffe best, and to Sylvia Lee (Div 1 Pro Pin Winner). They were pleasantly surprised as it was their first time playing the course. RGC will host the return challenge in 2027. [Photos courtesy of HGC Women]

🏌️ 2026 Men's Pennants Season – Round 6 VS Wynnum @ Wynnum

This week had our pennant team travel over to Wynnum for the final round of the 2026 season, our task was a simple one as a team we needed to win a minimum of 6 games to remain in Div 2 and our Junior team sat at the top of the junior ladder on games won but on equal points with Nudgee junior team, so a win for them would see our boys win the Junior section.

Most of the games were very close and it took a long time for it to become clear that we had secured the required minimum of six games, but once the results started to come in it was clear that we would get the required games and again come close to the overall win with a final result going Wynnum's way 11 ½ to 9 ½ . Importantly our Junior team had a 3 games to 2 win giving them a season record of 5 wins and only one lose that had them finish on top of the junior table with 10 points and a season that has seen our juniors win 20 out of the 30 individual matches played for the season. Our Juniors have demonstrated how important the junior development program we have implemented is as a club we have a standout junior program that provides a pathway from the sub juniors all the way through to entry into the main playing field of our Saturday competition and over the last 6 to 7 years we have gone from traveling to collect juniors to fill our junior pennant team to a winning home grown junior team a fantastic effort by the seven boys selected this year and with the inclusion of our next gen juniors into the pennant program our future is bright.

Our pennant season came to its traditional finish with players returning back to Redcliffe for the pennant shoot out and the announcement of Pennant Player of the Year. This year we had two standout performances with both the contenders coming from our Junior team Zac who had gone through the year undefeated with 5 wins and a halved game and Matthys who had two dominant wins at #1 in the junior team prior to being promoted into the open team that then saw him produce 3 more wins at #1 in the open team. The decision was made that both boys needed to be recognised with Zac coming in a very close second being presented with a dozen balls and Matthys taking out the Pennant Player of the year for his outstanding performances at #1 in both the Junior and Open teams. Both the boys have had great years and have represented Redcliff with pride.

RGC thanks all 31 players that formed our men's pennant team the caddies and the team managers for their dedication and efforts over the last six weeks a strong performance that the difference from fight to remain in Div 2 and being in the running to go up to Div 1 came down to 4 individual matches over the 6 weeks.
