Before building a solution, it helps to understand the problem you're actually trying to solve.

For golfers, one of those problems is surprisingly simple: consistent access to meaningful practice.

Traditional practice has constraints. Work finishes late. Daylight disappears. Canberra weather doesn't always cooperate. Travel takes time. And when someone only has a limited window available, the friction involved can be enough for practice not to happen at all.

That matters because improvement requires more than the occasional big practice session. Golfers need opportunities to work on their game consistently and with purpose.

Part of the thinking behind Canberra Golf Studio was therefore to create an environment where practice could become easier to integrate into everyday life — while also giving golfers the tools and information to make that practice more productive.

Removing barriers doesn't do the work for the golfer.

It gives them a better opportunity to do the work consistently.

For the golfers reading this, we're interested to know: what is the biggest obstacle that prevents you from practising as often as you'd like?

“You’re sliding.” But what does that actually mean? 🤔⛳

It’s a phrase golfers hear all the time — usually as though any lateral movement of the pelvis is automatically a problem.

It isn’t.

The pelvis needs to translate AND rotate during an effective golf swing. The question is whether that movement occurs in the right amount, at the right time, and supports what you are trying to accomplish.

🎯 Movement isn’t inherently good or bad.
🧠 Context determines whether it’s helping or hurting.

So before trying to eliminate a “slide,” first understand what the pelvis is actually doing — and why.

👇 Have you ever been told you slide in your golf swing? YES or NO?

More than 450 degrees per second is an impressive number. But the number by itself isn't the lesson.

Elite golfers can generate tremendous rotational velocities through the pelvis during the golf swing. It's tempting to see a benchmark like this and conclude that faster hip rotation must automatically produce a better or faster golf swing.

It's considerably more nuanced than that.

The pelvis is one component of an interconnected system. How quickly it accelerates, when it reaches peak velocity, how it interacts with the torso and how effectively the golfer transfers energy through the remainder of the sequence all matter.

That's why simply telling a golfer to “turn the hips faster” can miss the point.

A useful benchmark gives us context. It shouldn't automatically become a movement prescription.

The more valuable questions are: What is this golfer currently capable of producing? How are they producing it? When is it occurring? And does changing it actually help accomplish the performance objective?

That's the difference between collecting numbers and using data to inform coaching.

Did 450°+ per second surprise you — higher or lower than you expected?

One of the most valuable things a coach can develop isn't just a better golf swing. It's a more independent golfer.

There will always be value in coaching, feedback and another set of experienced eyes. But golfers shouldn't feel completely dependent on someone else every time something goes wrong.

Over time, good coaching should help a golfer better understand their own patterns, recognise what their ball flight is telling them, know what they are trying to accomplish in practice and make increasingly informed decisions about their game.

That changes the relationship with coaching.

Instead of simply receiving instructions, the golfer becomes an active participant in the process. They can ask better questions, provide better feedback and take greater ownership of their development.

The coach isn't just helping solve today's problem. They're helping the golfer become better equipped to solve tomorrow's.

Where would you put yourself right now: are you confident diagnosing your own game, or do you still feel like you're guessing when things start going wrong?

Elite golfers don't chase perfect shots—they train for predictable patterns.
One great shot doesn't define your game. What matters is how consistently you can place the golf ball within a manageable dispersion pattern.
That's why every practice session should have a purpose.

Using your personalized CoachNow practice plan, you'll focus on:
🎯 Target-based practice
⛳ Greens in Regulation
📊 Dispersion patterns
📏 Distance control
📈 Measurable improvement

Even the best players in the world don't hit every approach to a few feet. They understand their expected dispersion and use it to make smarter decisions and score more consistently.

Stop measuring your best shot.
Start measuring your average shot.
That's where real improvement begins.

The goal isn't to get better at the driving range—it's to play better golf on the course.
You've already put in the work. You've built the swing. Now it's time to bridge the gap between practice and performance.
That means shifting from repetitive block practice to game-like practice that prepares you for real rounds.

Try this:
🎯 Pick a different target for every shot.
🏌️ Change clubs frequently.
⛳ Simulate on-course decisions.
📊 Focus on your process, not perfection.
🎯 Keep the challenge realistic so you can build confidence before increasing the difficulty.

The best practice sessions don't just improve your technique—they improve your ability to execute when it matters most.

At Canberra Golf Studio, we help golfers train with purpose so the confidence you build on the range shows up on the golf course.

Practice for the game you play—not just the swing you want.

If your improvement depends on continually guessing what to do next, it becomes very difficult to know whether you're actually making progress.

Golfers often work extremely hard. The problem isn't necessarily effort — it's that the effort can lack a consistent direction.

One poor round creates a swing change. A good YouTube video introduces another idea. A frustrating range session sends practice in a different direction again. Before long, the golfer is working on plenty of things without really knowing which ones matter most.

A development system creates a different process.

Understand the golfer. Identify the priorities. Establish what you're trying to change and why. Practise it with purpose. Measure what happens. Then use that information to determine what comes next.

That doesn't mean the pathway never changes. Good coaching should adapt as the golfer develops. But adaptation based on evidence is very different from changing direction based on guesswork.

So we're curious: when you head to practise, could you clearly explain what you're working on, why you're working on it and how you'll know if it's improving?

A great golf facility should be about more than the facilities. It should be about the people who use them.

One of the things we want to continue building at Canberra Golf Studio is a genuine golf community — a place where people with different handicaps, experience levels and goals can share the same environment and enjoy getting better together.

Some golfers come to work seriously on performance. Others want structured practice, coaching, competition or simply somewhere they enjoy spending time around the game.

There should be room for all of them.

Because while improvement is an important part of golf, the people you meet and the community you become part of can be every bit as important to the experience.

We’d love to hear from Canberra golfers: what makes a golf community somewhere you genuinely want to be part of?

Don't just practice more—practice with a purpose.

One of the biggest changes golfers can make isn't swinging harder or spending more time on the range—it's changing how they practice.
Instead of hitting ball after ball, start building practice around dispersion, target awareness, and intentional feedback.
Every shot should give you information that helps you make better decisions and improve your consistency on the course.

At Canberra Golf Studio, we help golfers move beyond random practice by creating structured practice plans tailored to their game.
When every session has a clear objective, improvement becomes measurable—not accidental.

Practice with intention. Build consistency. Lower your scores.
