Some time ago, after a brief chat with Alan from DNA tackle, I was sent one of their #7 'Tuff Core native' fly lines to try out on my local estuary.
After a few months using it now, I thought I would write a few things about it.
Out of the packet it is a very pleasant line, looks good, feels good and spools up nicely onto the reel. Coming off the reel there is little to no memory, which makes a nice change. It is not a really aggressive tapered fly line and it lands quite delicately, I wil,l absolutely, be using this line for my estuary polaroiding this year.
As a casting line it is very easy to use. It is quiet to cast and flows easily through the guides. The line loads the rod well, although, if I am being picky, the 7 weight line cast my weighted estuary flies slightly better on my 6 weight rod. With this in mind, I will try an 8 on my 7 weight fly rod next.
The systems I fish are quite hard on fly lines, with rocks and oysters and bream that like to pull you through them, so it will be good to see how the line holds up longterm, but it isn't looking any worse for wear yet.
As a much more 'budget concious' fly line option I'm very impressed so far.
