Same room. Different course.

The top photo is Bunnings Eltham in May. The bottom one is the same floor last Saturday. Same racking, same pillar, same yellow lines.

In May it was white holes, a windmill and a bridge. This time it was a pinball table, a wall of falling blocks and three dinosaurs.

We have three courses in the range, so when you have us back it does not have to be the same course twice. All three are pictured on our website, and you choose the one that suits your day.

Next stop is Bunnings Dandenong on Saturday 17 October for the Spring launch.

Eight pedal karts on the grid. A full mini golf course behind them. The green towers on the grass are our Interactive Play System, which exists to get children running until they are happily worn out.

I set all of this up for a school in September, and it is the same kit I would bring to a staff family day.

The children get the karts and the towers. The adults get the course, and the chance to settle a few office rivalries while the kids are busy.

Can you stop a clock on exactly 10.00?

It is called the 10 Second Challenge. The clock counts up, you press the button when you think ten seconds have passed, and the screen shows how close you were. It is harder than it sounds, which is why people come back for a second go and bring a colleague.

On an exhibition floor, that is the difference between someone walking past your stand and someone stopping at it.

Last week we showed you one at MegaTrans, the last thing left in an empty hall. This is the other end of the story. Melbourne Build Expo opens at MCEC on 25 November, seven weeks from today.

We brand it to your stand, deliver it, set it up and look after it for the whole show. And we only work with one exhibitor per event. Once it is booked, it is off the table for everyone else on the floor.

The Monday before Cup Day. Half the desks are empty.

Cup Day is Tuesday 3 November. Anyone with a day of leave left takes the Monday and turns it into four days off. I would too.

That leaves the people who came in. The phones are quiet, the meetings have been moved, and nobody is pretending it is a normal day.

So make it the day. Nine holes down the middle of the office, and the sweep gets decided on the course. Lowest score has first pick of the horses.

A full course in your office for the day is $1,200, and nothing is added on top. There is only one Monday before the Cup, and I can only be in one office. If you would like it to be yours, I would love to hear from you.

There are three Fridays in December before Christmas. We cannot be everywhere.

Most offices start on the Christmas party in November, and by then the good dates have gone. So the plan quietly turns back into the same pub lunch as last year.

If your team would rather spend the afternoon with nine holes in the office, a full course for the day is $1,200. Nothing is added on top.

The cool kids are always the last to leave.

MegaTrans wrapped up at MCEC on 17 September. By the time we came back for pickup, every stand, every truck and every banner had gone. Our 10 Second Challenge was the last thing standing in the hall, with 9.46 still on the screen. So close.

We timed it. Loosely.

Put a mini golf course in an office for a day and the working hours start to bend a little. "Just one quick putt" takes forty seven minutes. The intern nobody had down as competitive wins the lot. Marketing gets three reels out of hole 7.

None of it shows up on a timesheet. All of it shows up the next morning, when people from different floors are still arguing about whether the ball went in.

Five questions come up on almost every office enquiry we take. None of them is about price.

The one that comes up most is the insurance question.

A workplace installation and a kids event are covered by two different policies, and the venue is going to ask you which one you have in writing.

Each of the five takes about a minute to answer, and between them they cover the room, the date, the floor and the paperwork.

Every office has had this conversation. Someone suggests a ping pong table.

It is not a bad idea. The problem is that a table is permanent, and permanent things stop being seen. Week one it is the best thing in the building. Week six it is where the empty boxes live.

What people remember is the day something turned up that was not there before, and then was gone again.

Nine holes and a retro arcade, in your office. For a day, a week, or even a month. Then it goes, which is most of the point.
