Some of the most honest conversations I have ever had happened mid-run.

No eye contact required. No agenda. No performance.

Just two people moving side by side, and somewhere in the rhythm of it, something true gets said.

That is what the Tan builds. Not just fitness. Connection.

One in three Australians say they are lonely. The research is clear that connection is one of the most powerful protective factors for mental health.

The Tan has always been a benchmark.

One lap. 3.827km. One hill. No hiding.

For generations, some of Australia’s greatest runners have tested themselves around Melbourne’s most iconic running track. Now, the all-time Top 100 captures that history and gives the next generation something to chase.

Men’s Top 100 cut-off: 11:08
Women’s Top 100 cut-off: 13:17

And the leaderboard keeps moving.

In 2026 alone, eight athletes broke into the all-time Top 100, including Linden Hall equalling the women’s course record of 11:31.

So the question is simple...

It's not just the distance. It is what happens to you on the way around.

The version of you that finishes is measurably different from the one that started. More patient. Clearer. Less reactive. More available to the people and work that follow.

Movement builds capacity. And capacity is what everything else depends on.

Running just 15 minutes a day reduces the risk of developing major depression by 26%.

Mental health doesn’t discriminate, and while running isn’t a cure, we know that movement, connection and belonging can play an important role in supporting our wellbeing.

Sometimes the most important part of a run isn’t the run itself.

It’s the conversation before.
The coffee after.
The people beside you.

That’s why Run the Tan is about more than running. Through our community, Run Club and annual event, we’re proud to support mental health awareness and the work of Run for Mental Health Ltd.

Mental health challenges are common. Talking about them should be too.

For more than 10 years, Trent Knox "Knoxy" has been bringing people together before sunrise through 440.

Running. Hill repeats. Ocean dips. Coffee. Connection.

What started as a simple Saturday morning ritual became something much bigger, not only for the people who joined him, but for Knoxy himself.

Behind the movement is a deeply personal story of addiction, sobriety, recovery and learning that strength isn’t always about pushing harder.

As Knoxy puts it:

“I used to believe strength meant fighting my way through life. Now I believe it means turning up for myself every day.”

His story is a powerful reminder of what movement and genuine community can create when people keep showing up for one another.

From Olympians and world-class athletes chasing records, to run clubs, schools, families, first-timers, volunteers and supporters, the Tan brings Melbourne together.

Run the Tan was created here. It has grown here. And it continues to be powered by the people who make Melbourne’s running community what it is.
