Women over 40... strength declining? hormones whacky?
Then you want more strength, less stress. And stress comes in many forms, not just emotional stress. Things like not enough sleep and over training and a poor diet all contribute to stress in the body.
When it comes to exercise though strength training is your friend. While I love long distance running, it's not the friend to me that it used to be over 40 (well, over 50). Instead it's better to prioritise strength training with less reps, more weight.
That doesn't mean don't run (omg, I hate when I read that running is crap... do what you enjoy because it's better than sitting on the couch!), but strength training 2-3 times per week will help manage your age related muscle and hormone loss 💪🏋️♀️
Oh, and did I mention protein? Eat more protein! 🍗🥚🍣🥛🥜

We're famous! My Exercise for Older Adults class is so popular another class has been added to the timetable at the Lilydale Community Centre.
And we don't just squat and lift weights! We play fitness games and activities, build strength and balance, and have tons of fun along the way. And it's not just popular because we exercise, it's because it's such a fabulous supportive and encouraging group of people who have a lot of laughs and fun as they stay fit and healthy. Because staying active as you get older is where it's at 💖🤩

Plus I run an Active Adults class at Chirnside Community Centre every Wed at 9.30am! 😍🏀🕺🧘♀️

I am proud to be an official supporter of the This Girl Can Campaign this year ❤️🏋️♀️😊🥰🧘♀️🌞
Less than a third of Australians are getting enough physical activity to benefit their health. However, the This Girl Can campaign is a VicHealth initiative aimed at empowering women and girls from all ages, sizes, abilities, and backgrounds to embrace physical activity in a way that suits them.
I am honoured to be working with Inspiro Health and in partnership with Eastern Health and the Yarra Ranges Council throughout November and early December. I will be running three FREE classes in the Yarra Ranges shire to help encourage women to participate in low impact fitness activities that can help their overall physical and mental wellbeing.
Chair Pilates Classes are open to all women, girls and non-binary people:

Our biggest problem when we starting running is 'blowing up'. We go too hard too fast. But slow and steady is actually the answer when you're starting out. You'll be surprised how achievable it is.

This girl did it! Her first half marathon, she put in the training every week and she got there. Like all training some weeks were hard but she never gave up. From beginners running program. To every Tues training group. To every Sat long run. She was there putting in the effort. Well done , it's taken me a while to congratulate you properly but I couldn't be prouder of your achievement! Rest. Revive. Repair. Next one 😉

I've been very fortunate to have been invited to provide some exercise sessions in the Yarra Ranges area for older participants.
Today's session was with the local Senior Citizens Group (where I do my Wed Seniors Fitness class too). Sitting, standing, waving their arms in the air! We did upper and lower body strengthening and movement, shadow boxing for some cardio and balance movements with a tennis ball. And a bit of Zip, Zap, Boing to get them moving... and it get them all laughing every single time! 🤹♀️🥎💪🥊
It doens't matter what you do, as long as you keep doing something. And this group was amazing! 🔥
Next month, weekly sessions at various location throughout the Yarra Ranges for the This Girl Can campaign 😍
