FRUIT. FRIEND OR FOE?

Fruit is an amazing source of nutrients which has a lot of benefits for our body. A piece or 2 of fruit a day should be a staple as part of a healthy diet.

The negativity around fruit centres on the sugar content. With sugar being overly demonised, it's important to keep context of the source of sugar consumed in the diet. Fruit, whilst containing sugar, also contains fibre, anti-oxidants and a wide range of vitamins and minerals which slow and prevent some of the sugar digestion.

For those with a Fructose intolerance then fruit may need to be avoided, but for those without the intolerance, there shouldn't be any fear about any sugar content of fruit. The benefits of fruit consumption is too great.

88 SQUATS FOR TOM’s 88th BIRTHDAY🎉🎉🎉🎉

Tom has been working with HFP founder Colin for over 10 years now and is a testament to the benefits of staying fit and healthy throughout your life.

Colin challenged Tom to do a set of 88 squats for his 88th which he completed with ease!

SUNSHINE AND VITAMIN D3

Sun exposure comes with inherited risks and rewards. All of us in Australia will be well educated on risk mitigation with the Slip, Slop, Slap campaign promoted every summer and the rates of melanoma. While the risks are very real, we must also understand the benefits the sun provides towards our health.

The main benefit being the role the sun has on our Vitamin D3 levels. Without any exposure to the sun, our body can become deficient in Vitamin D3.

There are populations and situations where deficiency is not much of a reality or could be a real risk.

HEELS ELEVATED SQUATS

Squatting with your heels elevated has 2 main purposes.

1 - It can help achieve a greater range of motion in the squat. If limitations in ankle mobility (dorsiflexion) or bone structure (femur length in relation to tibia and torso) are preventing you from squatting to or past parallel, using a heel elevation can help to mitigate these issues.

2 - Using a heel elevation will force the knees to travel further forward past the toes, placing a greater emphasis of the movement on the quads. This can be a great tool if looking to improve quad hypertrophy and strength
