Circa1973 ...Italian Social Club Werribee as it was initially known then, had organised a picnic at the Little River oval prior to Christmas. Many from the Youth Club arrived in style on a truck filled on the sides with haybales so we didnt fall off. We had to stay on the inside of the bales of course. We travelled like this from the Club in Healths Road along the back roads to Little River. It was fun and very uncomfortable lol and crazy dangerous now but in the day it was a hay ride ! 🤷‍♀️ The picnics were great and many of our parents met us there with food. They cooked pasta for spaghetti eating contests, egg & spoon, three legged races, wheelbarrow races & greasy pole contest . It was well organised and quite the event for us.

So in this photo I see myself & my cousin Linda Berton on a haybale both looking at the camera, Gus Stangerhlin with beany and glassies, John Faranda are you in front?, Anthony Antonello side view back.. perhaps near Gus and others also on the Tubbs semi-trailer. Where you on this truck? Do you have photos of this day somewhere or anything to add. The photo is not too clear . Please let us know.

A few memento's of the Italian Youth Club days circa 1970s. T.shirts, membership cards and functions , dances, presentation dinner, comedy show and those fantastic car rallies ❤️ Who remembers these functions?

Emilio Trovarelli...was often at the Italian Social Club of Werribee (as it was then known) , with his camera in tow snapping photos of functions, dinner dances, events like Christmas picnics & sports like bocce and tugowar. Thanks to Emilio we have many memories to share.

I have put their name and years they were president of the ISCW.

Each of these Presidents had a great group of passionate executive & committee members behind them with much discussed & debated over these 52 years about everything involving our club. The club was for their families and friends, it was their heart & soul & community.

The hard working ladies of the I.S.C.W Ladies Committee in the 1970s would ask a few young girls each year to run for the Miss I.S.C.W. as a fundraising event. One of the ladies would sometimes take us under her wing and help with BBqs, dances and fundraising for charities and for raising money towards building a club. Every cent counted. If it wasnt for the commitment of the Ladies Committee during this time we may not have had a club to build. They brought in money, people and did some amazing functions, Miss Italian Club Werribee, dances, Hawaiian nights, baby shows , fundraising, fashion parades etc, etc. Always working, setting up tables for functions, always raffling , always hassling & standing up for themselves with the mens committee, always saving a dollar with lots of fun for everyone. Many of us girls were involved in the Italian Youth Club as well. PS. more photos coming....Ill attach at end of this group of photos as well. So an easy reference.

Thanks Christine

It has been a while since I have added a post. We had the 53rd ISCW Club Anniversary in August 2024 and I found a few photos that I have to share. In the early days we had lots of 'Miss I.S.C.W ' functions. The very first one was held to raise money to get a club going and also to give money to a Charity which the I.S.C.W Ladies Committee help run with the club. Many italian clubs ran these functions and photos were often in the Il Globo . In this1972 paper clipping we have possibly the clubs very first (Is that correct) Miss I.S.C.W. & Charity Queen with these lovely young women from our club. First photo from Left to Right: Santina Degregorio, Josie Lentini, Silvana Michelon, Paula Elevato, Connie Gandolfo, Teresa Favaro, Carmel Rantino, Nancy Alifraca, Carmel Iorlando? & Frances Lentini. Hope I have all the names correct. Tell me if it should be otherwise.

Second photo: Left to right: 1972, Joe Brunato (President of I.S.C.W?), Carmel I?Charity queen?Gina Menegazzo(President of Ladies Committee) Silvana Michelon Miss I.S.C.W and Athol Guy (Judge and member for lalor ? & a bass cello player for The Seekers. Memories !

1972 when the mini skirt, hotpants, white stockings, flairs, big hairdo's , scarfs , lapels , platform shoes, pixi cuts and long hair styles were the fashion. Love it.

Did we have other photos earlier than this for the Miss ISCW? If so let me know. I have a heap of photos for after this time they will be up soon too.
Christine
