Sam has been doing EDC sessions for just over a month now. He always brings great energy and enthusiasm to each session.
His kicking development has been awesome to watch in person and it was great to see the vision confirm it.

The main focus for Sam was to become balanced and getting his shoulders towards the target (check out the side of vision). This allowed his ball drop to stay inside his hips and helped him not to ‘fall off the ball’.

We’ve had a great block of sessions with Reilly over the past four weeks at EDC.

Our main focus was to reduce the height of his ball drop (from around his shoulders to around his waist line).

This is helping him become a more accurate and consistent kick as the ball doesn’t have to travel as far from hand to foot. We also worked on cues to build momentum pre and post the kick.

Reilly worked really hard at EDC sessions and away from them too, with his individualised program to get this improvement. Well done Reilly!

Had a great first session with Reilly yesterday. Plenty of power in his kick for a junior and not even 13 yet!

We filmed his kick and went through it on the spot making a few adjustments to his ball drop.
As you can see from the image, Reilly releases the ball right up around his chest, increasing the likelihood of the ball to move around by the time it hits his foot.

I gave him a few cues to apply before the ball drop to shorten the distance between hand and foot.

It’s great to work with young players to help them develop good habits with their footy skills.

GROUND BALLS:
What do you think is the most important aspect of performing a ground ball successfully?

- In the first clip Charlie is performing the ground ball with good foot work leading into the pick up - small steps into big steps to be as balanced as possible. However, he is really ‘front on’ leaving himself exposed for contact from the opposition.

- I always say that the most important thing about doing a ground ball successfully is…PROTECTING YOURSELF! I made a slight tweak to Charlie’s positioning that will help him protect himself during a ground ball contest.
