Real Potential
By Eddie Morales
You know, it's funny how often the person with real potential is the last one to actually see it. Most students will stroll into the dojo, all focused on what they can't do but a really good instructor immediately spots what you could become. They're watching your stance, your timing, the effort you put in, and your attitude. Long before you ever see your own strength, they're already seeing the sheer possibility bubbling inside you.
Instructors aren't really drawn to perfection, what they're really drawn to is hunger. When they see a student who genuinely listens, learns, and just tries, something clicks for them. They just know that with the right guidance, that student can shoot way past anything they might imagine for themselves and that creates a responsibility on both sides, one that totally deserves respect.
Because of that, when you start showing a bit of potential, instructors actually get tougher on you. They start expecting sharper technique, a deeper focus, cleaner movements, and way stronger discipline. To you, it might feel like a ton of pressure, but to them, It's like an investment. They're pushing you because they truly believe in what you can achieve.
This pressure isn't some kind of punishment, not at all. It's preparation. It's like they're forging your character so that when challenges inevitably pop up, you'll respond with clarity instead of getting all bogged down in doubt. A good instructor will test you in the dojo way before life ever tests you out in the real world. They do it to really strengthen your foundation.
A lot of students totally misunderstand this whole process. They think they're being singled out or treated unfairly. What they just don't get is that not everyone actually receives this kind of attention. Instructors aren't going to waste their time on folks who lack commitment. They focus their energy on the ones who can truly grow.
So, when an instructor keeps correcting you over and over again, it's not a sign of weakness, believe it or not. It's actually a sign of promise. They know that if they can just refine your movement, your spirit and confidence will absolutely soar right along with it. They push you, not to break you, but to reveal the incredible power that's already sitting inside you.
Real potential needs real pressure. Think about diamonds, they're made through intense heat and pressure. Martial artists are no different. If you really want to hit a high level in your art, you've got to be willing to embrace the demands that are placed on you. Growth, after all, is born from discomfort.
Over time, you'll actually start to understand why they were so strict. You'll probably hear their corrections echoing in your mind long after class is over. You'll recognize that their voice actually became the structure that guided all your progress. What once felt like harsh criticism will transform into pure clarity and gratitude.
Eventually, your technique will sharpen, your stance will solidify, and your confidence will seriously blossom. In that moment, you'll realize your instructor wasn't actually being hard on you. They were honoring you. They were getting you ready for a level you just didn't know how to reach all on your own yet.
Real potential isn't just about raw talent. It's about drive, humility, discipline, and being willing to be shaped. When an instructor sees that in you, take it seriously. They're basically showing you the path toward the martial artist you're truly destined to become.

Apparently someone has found another way to hurt and offend people for No reason. Here is a heads up for everyone. There is a new hack on FB. It includes a hurtful phrase coming from you. It is usually very dirty and appears that you have written it. You will NOT see it, but your friends will. This creates many misunderstandings. So to all of my contacts, if anything shocking, inappropriate, or indecent shows up ,it's not from me. You may wish to copy this to your wall.
