Get to know Alison, our Family Services Practitioner in TAS π
"I was inspired to work in Foster Care by a fellow worker, Kim, who spoke of how she loved her job and encouraged me to apply because she thought that I would be good at it. So thank you, Kim! I had no idea what to expect but now that I am a few months in, I have no regrets for swapping a long term teaching job to my current role as a Family Services Practitioner.
My proudest moment was when a resistant carer told me that she was pleased she had signed up with Baptistcare. Thanks to Rachel B for also being a part of that achievement. Working as a team, even though we are assigned carers, is another benefit of the job. We are never alone.
I love trying to make a difference for carers and their children in care. Each day has a new challenge, and a new frustration at times, but I feel there are more wins than set backs!"

With a decline in Foster Carers, and a sizeable increase in children entering non-home-based care since 2017, there has never been a more impactful time to open your heart and your home to a child in need.
To learn more about the kinds of carers needed (there are several!), head to our website: https://www.baptcare.org.au/about-foster-care-and-kinship-care/

Carers come in many forms and no matter who they are or who they care for, their own wellbeing is often overlooked. We wrote a wonderful article about how to care for the carer, currently live on the website.

Do you know what Kinship Care is? It's where children or young people are placed with a family member, a friend of the family, or someone in their community. This happens when the child is not able to stay at home with their parents.
We provide this service in both Victoria and Tasmania, where programs are run differently in each state.
If Kinship Care might be something you can provide, head to our website to learn more about the process.

It's currently National Volunteer Week β a time to recognise and celebrate the important work of Volunteers. Foster Carers actually fall under this umbrella! In our books, there's no one more deserving of recognition π©΅
