SELF PRACTICE . . . Giving yourself time to explore your own practice allows you to reflect on how you feel in that pose. How does your body respond today? What are the cues that are most important for you?
Do you need to press your bottom shoulder to your arm more?
Do you need to roll your top hip open more?
Or tuck in the bottom hip, rotating your pelvis under?
Can you open your chest to the side, aligning your shoulders over your wrist?
Lift your arm over your head, extending from the armpit to fingertips, rotating your little finger down, and initiating internal rotation of the shoulder?
Can you press into the big toe of your bent leg?
Can you feel the side of your back foot pressing into the ground, elongating the start from foot to fingertips?
Can you gaze at your extended thumb, or do you need to gaze down at your pressed palm?
All of these cues, suggestions, and tweaks help us to recognise where our bodies sit in space when we try to hold Utthita Parsvakonasana (extended side angle).
Yoga is not only about the asana, but how we feel in it, how we recognise our bodies in these shapes, and how we view our limitations both physically and mentally. How we manage these limitations physically gives us a clue to how we manage our limitations in life. Yoga life on our mat is a microcosm of the life we live with off the mat.

Kids Yoga isn't like adult yoga. It's noisy, silly and sometimes a little bit chaotic 😜, oh, and a whole lotta fun! Everyone loves to show how they can make the shapes with their body.
I love it as I know this its teaching them to connect with their body, promoting an increase of gross motor skills, balance, strength, focus and memory. Plus building up their self-esteem as they join in with their friends! So while we are pretending to be angry cats we are actually working some new skills and reinforcing things we have learnt before.
Isn't it wonderful how we can play, act and learn things all at the same time?
