I would like to thank all of the amazing swimmers who were so patient and understanding in very trying conditions on Saturday. To all the sponsors who keep supporting us year after year and through their generosity ensure we are able to deliver this event.
Finally to all of the amazing volunteers who have ensured that we have been able to deliver this event continuously for 40 consecutive years. CV19 didnt stop us and the winds on Saturday couldnt either - albeit they came very close. These conditions showed just how good and how dedicated our lifesavers who provided water safety are and why the equipment we use is so important.
On that note:
The swims that we and other lifesaving clubs run are a critical part in helping all of us to buy the equipment necessary to patrol the beaches and waterways. Please consider these swims when planning your event calendars. Your participation doesn’t just give you a fantastic memory it helps us keep people safe.
We look forward to welcoming you back next year but until then please stay safe.

Portsea SLSC would like to sincerely thank all swimmers, volunteers, sponsors, and spectators for supporting the 40th Portsea Swim Classic. It was a fantastic milestone event and a wonderful celebration of open-water swimming at Portsea.
It was inspiring to see so many swimmers embrace the challenging wind and sea conditions that open-water swimming can deliver. Your resilience, good spirits, and camaraderie out on the water truly embodied the spirit of the Swim Classic.
We would also like to acknowledge and apologise to those swimmers impacted by unexpected traffic congestion on Point Nepean Road and the Defence Road . This congestion was largely caused by the Point Nepean Market being incorrectly advertised as open on Saturday, resulting in a significant volume of vehicles entering the National Park. Unfortunately, this disruption affected what is normally a very fluid bus transport operation, which in turn delayed the swim starts and led to some swimmers missing their allocated waves and needing to swim in alternate waves.
For swimmers who missed their designated wave but were able to join another wave, you may have initially noticed a DNS (Did Not Start) result against your name. Our timing provider, Timit, is currently in the process of correcting these cases and assigning the affected swimmers to a placeholder results position named “Other Wave,” along with their recorded swim times.
While these swimmers successfully completed the swim, we are unfortunately unable to retrospectively place them into their original registered category rankings. Conditions throughout the day were not static, with wind and tide having a significant influence on different waves, and for reasons of fairness and consistency this adjustment is not possible.
We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding and thank you all for helping make the 40th Portsea Swim Classic a memorable event. We look forward to welcoming swimmers back for the 41st Portsea Swim Classic next year.
