A Queensland couple has donated an extraordinary $40 million to FightMND — one of the largest gifts ever to an Australian health charity.
They’d pledged $10 million last week, but after experiencing the Big Freeze at the MCG for the first time, they increased it by another $30 million on the spot. Their generosity, despite having no personal link to MND or the AFL, shows just how far Neale Daniher’s message has reached.
Today’s sea of blue beanies, the tributes, and the emotion inside the MCG proved that Neale’s legacy is stronger than ever.
This donation isn’t just a number — it’s a massive boost to the mission Neale started: beat the Beast.

Following the passing of Neale Daniher, the AFL, in consultation with the Daniher family, has enhanced the process for awarding the Neale Daniher Trophy to ensure it more explicitly recognises the values Neale embodied throughout his life.
The Neale Daniher Trophy will be presented following this afternoon's Big Freeze match between Melbourne and Collingwood at the MCG.
The trophy will now be awarded to the player who best demonstrates the values Neale lived every day - bravery, resilience, unity, care, conviction and selflessness - and who best reflects his enduring mantra to “Play On”.
At the conclusion of the match, Melbourne coach Steven King and Collingwood coach Craig McRae will each award 3-2-1 votes to the players they believe best exemplified those values throughout the game.
The votes will be provided to the Daniher family, who will award the trophy to the player who receives the highest number of votes. In the event of a tie, the Daniher family will have the casting vote.

AFL fans — we want your voice in this year’s AFL Fans Association Annual Survey.
Every season, we take your feedback directly to the AFL and the clubs. To make sure we’re asking the right things, we want to know what questions YOU think should be included.
What issues matter most to you right now?
What needs fixing?
What deserves more attention?
What should the AFL hear directly from fans?
Drop your suggested survey questions in the comments — anything from fixturing, ticketing, umpiring, fan experience, club transparency, rules, AFLW, match-day costs, broadcasting, overseas expansion, or anything else you believe fans deserve a say on.
Your ideas will help shape the final survey that thousands of supporters complete each year.
Fans built this game. Fans deserve a voice.
Let’s make sure it’s heard.
