As most of us should know, ACSV has a published an in-depth guide for fees (http://www.acsv.com.au/…/fees-residential-surveyors-and-lan…). It is apparent throughout the industry that us surveyors are charging far below these fees, and you have to wonder why? Everyone in the industry seems to be r
eally busy with the amount of work going around. Yet we continue to under-cut each other by charging cents on the dollar for this work, leaving us with a fraction of the profit margin. Ultimately we are having to do a large amount work in order to meet our financial budgets, whereas if we were to charge our fees appropriately we would only have to do half the amount of work to meet these budgets. With more work comes less time for other things such as staff development, i.e. Professional Training Agreements, another major issue within the surveying profession. Wages for surveyors have been stagnant for years and with fees being charged as they are there is no room for wages to grow. At the end of the day, it is us, the hard working surveyors that are losing out. It is a difficult problem to rectify, and in order to fix it there needs to be a consistent change across the profession. Hopefully this page helps to spread the word and in the not too distant future, we can work together to increase our fees and get the financial benefits we deserve.
