Hokushin Shinoh Ryu Iaido - ancient traditional japanese swordsmanship. It was created for the physical and mental discipline of the Samurai warrior.

Iai-Do is the ancient Japanese art of drawing the sword and cutting in a single movement.

After taking a break in 2024 so we could travel to Adelaide and celebrate Sei Shihan's birthday, we are back with our regular annual Bendigo seminar in just 6 weeks! I hope to see you there.

Victoria is introducing a ban on machetes from September 1st. Swords were already banned in the state, but in light of the current attention it is a good opportunity to remind everyone of the conditions of our exemption to possess swords.

Two important points I want to draw to your attention.

1. Your Iaito must be stored safely and securely, in a manner that ensures it is not readily accessible to other people. This might be in a gun safe, or a lockable cabinet or cupboard.

2. When travelling to and from the Dojo, it must also be stored in a manner not readily accessible to others, and concealed from plain sight. This means in a sword bag and in the boot of your car, not on the passenger seat. You should also ensure you have your membership card with your sword at all times.

The full list of conditions can be found here:https://www.hokushin.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/control_of_weapons-martial_arts.pdf

Please note our exemption only applies to swords used in our martial art - it doesn't apply to other bladed weapons and definitely doesn't apply to machetes.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you everyone who attended our Melbourne 2025 seminar. It was wonderful to have Suseki-Shihan Takeo over from Adelaide to impart his knowledge to us.
It was also great to have Shihan Robert from N.Z. as well as Jun-Shihan Damien and the members from Bendigo join us, plus some others who travelled from Sydney and Ballarat to participate. Congratulations to those who passed their gradings.
Cheers.
