An evening of original, improvised and enchanting music from Bowlines 🎶

Featuring Ernie Gruner, Sophie Dunn and Hope Csutoros, this contemporary string trio weaves together violins and violas in a deeply expressive cross-genre performance shaped by improvisation, listening and spontaneous creation.

Drawing influence from Classical, Norwegian, Indian, Blues, Klezmer, Balkan, Turkish, Greek, Irish, Scottish and Jazz traditions, Bowlines creates music that feels both grounded and unexpected.

Formed by Ernie Gruner in 2012, the project brings together eclectic string players with strong classical training, passionate playing and a shared love of improvisation.
Inspired by groups including The Necks, Kronos Quartet and Born in a Taxi, Bowlines offers a truly unique live music experience.

Autumn is a season of contraction, refinement, clarity and letting go 🍂

As the days shorten and the air cools, nature begins to draw inward. The leaves soften and fall, the trees pull their nutrients back to centre, and everything moves at a slower, quieter pace. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, this is the energy of the Metal element — a season inviting us to release what we no longer need and reconnect with what is essential.

Like the trees shedding their bark and leaves, we too are asked to let go of what we’ve been carrying. Through slower practices like yin and gentle flow, longer exhales and softer rhythms, the body and nervous system are given space to soften, regulate and reorganise.
Autumn offers so much wisdom if we are willing to slow down enough to notice it.
