Prior to becoming the first Spanish rider to become a premier class World Champion, Alex Crivillé etched his name into Phillip Island folklore with a memorable victory at the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix in 1997.

In just its third instalment at Phillip Island, the 1997 race was packed with drama. After hometown hero Mick Doohan crashed out while leading, Repsol Honda teammate Álex Crivillé inherited the lead and took the victory.

A trailblazer of the sport and one of the many legends to conquer The Island. 👏

Australian success at Phillip Island begins with Wayne Gardner, who set the tone at the circuit’s very first world championship events. Gardner claimed back-to-back premier class victories in 1989 and 1990, immediately establishing both himself and Phillip Island on the global stage. 🏍️
