My first stab at fiction that's loosely based on that first year one has living and working abroad. The setting is South Korea and the year is 2003.
The Year My Hair Fell Out is a somewhat loose account of one’s defining first year living and working abroad in a foreign culture. We witness the story via the eyes of one Don Laridis, a mid-thirties Australian who has left Sydney to teach English in South Korea, a country he knows next to nothing about. One down with just two performances left tonight (7pm) and tomorrow Sunday at 5pm. Hope you can make one of them. Last night was opening night and opened with a bang literally as the skies stormed down on Darlo Drama.
This play has everything - it’s dark, twisted with sardonic humour, light and shade; all done with NY street accents that are physical and befitting of the streets that the play is set on. It’s been challenging putting this one on but well worth the ride. Our director Sean O’Riordan has done a great job, with show being the 4th time to experience such tutelage.
