The Michael Johnstone Memorial Award 2026

The Michael Johnstone Memorial Award stands as a tribute to Michael’s selfless dedication and unwavering commitment to establishing the Hillside Football Club. The award is presented to a player who embodies Michael’s values, passion and commitment while upholding the Club’s strong culture and values. It recognises a young leader who demonstrates outstanding character, leadership and sportsmanship, possessing the qualities to progress into senior football at the Hillside Football Club and beyond.

The 2026 winner of the Michael Johnstone Memorial Award is a person of outstanding character who possesses a genuine team-first attitude and is willing to do whatever is required to help his team improve. His teammates are naturally drawn to his likeability, positivity and leadership.

The winner of the 2026 Michael Johnstone Memorial Award is a shining example of outstanding character, with a genuine team-first mindset and an infectious positivity that draws his teammates in.

A strong leader is not necessarily someone who stands out in front and tells others to follow. A strong leader stands alongside their teammates, encourages everyone to grow regardless of their ability, and does what is required without complaint. Through these qualities, others naturally choose to follow—and this young man is a wonderful example of that type of leadership.

He's a model of consistency, always striving to improve, and his growth this season has been remarkable. Above all, he's a coach's dream - receptive to feedback, driven to succeed, and exemplifying integrity, maturity, and discipline beyond his years. His potential is limitless, both on and off the field.

It's been an absolute pleasure to witness his journey, and we can't wait to see the incredible impact he'll continue to make as he progresses to under 18.5 football at the Sharks.

Please put your hands together for the inaugural winner of the Michael Johnstone Memorial Award, Jack Brne!

2026 Heath Prior Memorial Award

Since his passing in 2022, the HFC has honoured the memory of Heath Prior by presenting the Heath Prior Memorial Award to an Under 14b player. The award stands as a tribute to Heath's legacy, honouring his values of leadership, resilience, and the importance of fostering connections within the football community.

The 2026 award was presented by Heath's brother-in-law, Robbie Castello, who shared how Heath's infectious enthusiasm and kindness made everyone feel seen and valued.

"Heath was a big man with an even bigger heart. He always made people feel welcome, and if you were near him, he made sure he knew who you were.

Heath loved his family deeply, Delice, Paityn and Mav, and his passions were cars, music and sport. Footy was his world: the Western Bulldogs and the Hillside Football Club, where he coached, assisted, and helped wherever he could."

Tragically, Heath left us too soon, passing away doing what he loved - helping the boys at training and having a kick with his son. "He is missed every day, and we know he’d still be watching over us and keeping an eye on the scores."

The Sharks are extremely proud to annouce that this year's winner is a shining example of Heath's values. He is a true leader who inspires his teammates with his dedication, sportsmanship, and kindness. He welcomes newcomers with open arms (and a Heath approved firm handshake) and wears his Sharks jersey with pride and integrity.

His resilience and determination to grow are a testament to his outstanding character and his commitment to continually develop - not only as a footballer but also as a person. The respect he shows everyone involved with the Club is a true reflection of his outstanding character.

The 2026 Heath Prior Memorial Award is presented to Phoenix Desira.

Congratulations Phoenix, you truly embody the spirit of the Heath Prior Memorial Award.

Phoenix is pictured with Heath’s beloved wife Delice and brother in law & local footy and Sharks legend, Robbie Castello who were honoured to present Phoenix with the 2026 Heath Prior Memorial Award.
