Let’s look out for each other this R U OK? Day (10 September) 💛

Today is a powerful reminder that a simple conversation can change a life.

R U OK? Day is all about inspiring and empowering everyone to meaningfully connect with the people around them and lend a supportive ear to those who might be struggling.

We are proud advocates of this day because we know that connection is the foundation of wellbeing. You don't need to be an expert to ask the question, to listen without judgement, and to encourage action. Just showing up and being there can make all the difference.

If you or someone you know is going through a tough time, please remember that you don't have to carry it on your own. Opendoor is always here as a safe, welcoming source of support.

A day of self-care for Better Futures

Better Futures supports young people as they move from care towards independent life, helping them build the skills and confidence to reach their goals.

Last month, the program held a self-care day for a group of young people at Werribee. The day included visits to Werribee Nail Salon, D&J Nail Salon and Jiva Hair Salon, with haircuts, hair colour, manicures and pedicures on offer.

Alongside the pampering, the day gave the group a chance to spend time together outside the usual program setting. For some young people, it was the first time they’d had their hair coloured at a salon, an experience they said they appreciated.

Days like this are a small but meaningful part of the Better Futures program, giving young people space to feel good and connect with others on a similar journey.

No two days are the same at Orana Commercial.

The Indigenous-owned relocation business took on two young Indigenous workers through our 50 Jobs for Mob in 50 Days campaign, and director Jason says the variety is part of what makes it work.

"Some days we're installing new technology, other days moving furniture from one place to another. Engagement from young mob is high because they're not in a factory doing the same thing day in, day out."

What stood out when the pair started? "Initiative and a genuine drive to learn. They were looking to better themselves through employment."

His message to other employers: "Give Opendoor a go. It's a great way to give young Indigenous people a genuine opportunity to learn, grow and build a career, while bringing enthusiastic new talent into your business."

Our NDIS Social Options are so much more than just activities. Consider them your pathways to forming genuine connections, building your confidence, and feeling like a part of your community.

We support NDIS participants to explore their interests, form new and lasting friendships, and take part in local life in ways that feel comfortable and empowering. What our NDIS Social Options can look like:

🥰Exploring passions: from cooking and art to gardening, swimming, footy games, and more. It's your fun, your way.

😎Building practical independence: including training to navigate public transport with confidence.

✨Flexible support: starting with 1:1 support and transitioning into small groups as your confidence grows.

✔️Supported by our trauma-informed approach: we prioritise emotional safety, consistency, and your individual goals every step of the way.

Indigenous Literacy Day | 2 September 2026
📚 Reading opens doors to future opportunities and choices.
This Indigenous Literacy Day, Opendoor is proud to recognise the importance of First Nations stories, languages, culture and literacy.
This year’s theme, Country Is Our Teacher, celebrates the knowledge, stories and connections to Country that are shared across generations.
The Indigenous Literacy Foundation works alongside remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities to support access to culturally relevant books and resources, while empowering Communities to create and publish their own stories in the languages of their choice.
At Opendoor, we recognise that literacy is about more than learning to read and write. It is about connection, confidence, opportunity and having a voice.
On 2 September, we celebrate the strength of First Nations Communities, the power of storytelling and the importance of ensuring everyone can access and share stories.
🌿 Country Is Our Teacher. Stories connect us. Literacy opens doors.

Let’s show our support for Wear It Purple Day (28 August) 💜

This important day is all about showing LGBTQIA+ young people that they have the right to be proud of who they are. It started right here in Australia in 2010 to raise awareness, celebrate diversity, and create safe, supportive environments for rainbow youth.

By wearing 💜purple💜, we send a clear visual message to young people that they are seen, valued, and respected exactly as they are. It’s a simple reminder that everyone deserves to grow up feeling safe and empowered in their schools, workplaces, and communities.

So grab something purple, start a conversation, and help foster a future built on inclusion and acceptance.

We're proud to announce that Opendoor is a finalist for the Learn Local Partnership Award at the 2026 Learn Local Awards, for the Women Out Working (WOW) program.

WOW began as a conversation between Opendoor and Glen Park Community Centre about the disparity in Employment Fund expenditure for women, and the need for more meaningful pathways into employment, and grew into something special: a small, supportive program building skills, confidence and real job pathways.

Through our partnership with Hungry 4 Success Café & Catering at Eastland, participants get hands-on hospitality and job-ready experience in a genuine workplace.

Thank you to everyone who helped bring WOW to life.
