It was fantastic to be part of the Geelong Careers Expo, hosted by the Geelong Region Local Learning & Employment Network (GRLLEN), bringing together students, schools, educators, employers, training providers and the wider community to inspire the next generation of Geelong's workforce.

Our team enjoyed speaking with hundreds of students, parents, teachers and industry representatives, sharing career pathways, answering questions and highlighting the support available through Opendoor's Transition to Work program and Training Services.

It was also a pleasure to see the Deputy Prime Minister and local Member for Corio, Hon. Richard Marles, officially open the event and encourage young people to pursue careers that bring them joy!

We left the expo inspired by the ambition, curiosity and potential of Geelong's youth.

Our 50 Jobs for Mob in 50 Days campaign is connecting Indigenous jobseekers with real work across Melbourne and Geelong. So far that includes admin traineeships, apprenticeships, childcare, aged care, construction, security and more.

With 22 days to go, our teams across every site are working alongside candidates who are interviewing now and preparing to start.

Yesterday we welcomed representatives from the Victorian Department of Education to our Sunshine training campus for a valuable discussion about Skills First training and the future of vocational education.

Our Training team, Mabel, Naveena, and Daniela, shared how Opendoor delivers quality training, the opportunities we see to strengthen outcomes, and the practical ways we continue to improve our services for learners.

As a Skills First provider for more than 20 years, we value opportunities to work closely with the Department to share insights, discuss emerging challenges, and ensure our training continues to meet the needs of our communities.

During the visit, we also showcased our Sunshine training facilities, including our new learning spaces and welcoming areas where people connect and build confidence throughout their training journey.

Recently, our Barwon team hosted a Job Fair for First Nations clients, with fantastic support from the local community.

The day brought together employers, training providers and support services from across the region, including AYS, genU, Licences4Work, Legal Aid, Plan Group, Gforce, Wathaurong, Newcomb Secondary College, The Gordon, City of Greater Geelong, Workforce Australia, IHG and Woolworths.

As part of our NAIDOC Week activities, clients also took part in cultural weaving crafts.
We were grateful to learn from First Nations representatives through shared stories, cultural knowledge and traditions. The day strengthened community partnerships and opened new pathways to support clients through employment, education, and community engagement.
