We often think of luxury as having more.

More money.
More possessions.
A bigger house.
A nicer car.
More opportunities.

And while there is absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying those things, I’ve started to recognise there is something even more valuable.

Energy.

Because money can create opportunities.

Energy allows you to enjoy them.

What good is a dream holiday if you’re too exhausted to explore, walk, hike, cycle or fully experience it?

What good is financial freedom if you don’t have the energy to take the trips, have the adventures and create the memories you’ve been dreaming about?

As I’ve got older, I’ve started thinking differently about wealth.

Of course money matters. It creates choices and experiences.

But energy is what allows us to fully participate in life.

Energy helps us take the trip.
Walk the trail.
Explore a new city.
Play with our grandchildren.
Build the business.
Try something new.
Say yes to life.

That’s one of the reasons I’m so passionate about helping women over 50 create effortlessly energised lives they love.

Living longer matters.

But having the energy to truly enjoy those years matters just as much.

May - what a month!

I’m really enjoying looking back at each month

At first it feels like nothing much has happened
But doing some reflecting and looking back at photos reminds me that I’m making progress towards truly living in a way that brings me joy

After about 30 years, I finally got to hike into the Wilsons P**n lighthouse and stay at Banks cottage - such a wonderful experience

I also finally set up my standing desk and walk pad - something I’ve been wanting to do for years - it’s already helping me not sit down much as I work - and a bonus of adding some more steps to my work days

Lots of gardening - I’ve been simplifying some parts of my garden - trying to make it a bit more managable so that I can enjoy it as well as work in it

And then off to Queensland to a healthy ageing conference - gaining more knowledge and ideas to help my clients and myself age better and with more energy

The goal isn’t just to live longer.

It’s to have the energy to truly enjoy your life after 50.

Women over 50 are constantly being bombarded with information about what they should be doing to live longer.

Often, it involves restrictive, extreme or unrealistic approaches that can make life feel smaller instead of better.

But I think we also need to ask a different question.

How do we create an effortlessly energised life we actually love living?

One where we feel healthy, energised and able to fully participate in our lives.

One where we have the energy to travel, move, explore, connect, try new things and enjoy the years ahead instead of simply getting through them exhausted.

Living longer only feels meaningful if you also have the energy and health to enjoy that time.

This is exactly what I help women with at Energised Ageing.

I’ve always dreamt of a gap year
And, it’s something I still want to do

So, I entered a competition

You may have seen that I was out and about filming a project over Feb/March
It was to enter a comp which included $100,000 worth of travel over 12 months for an over 55 Australian

I had 3 weeks to submit
The brief was share why, show your personality and be creative
I’m quite proud of what I created - I was the writer, director, mostly filmer (with some family help for some scenes) and editor

It involved me traipsing all around Melbourne and beyond to fulfil my vision

I totally put myself out there
- from having people walking past laughing while I was in a lane way in Fitzroy with orange feathers on my head trying (and I mean no idea…) to samba (I looked it up on YouTube driving there 😂)
- to doing about 50 takes at the airport during a major airline disruption in the middle of complete chaos
- trying not to fall off my bike with my phone strapped to my hand
- zip lining for the first time ever - the staff I’m sure thought it was hilarious as I turned up alone with my phone strapped to hand again, insisting on an orange helmet (to go with my theme) and then watching me keep landing upside down and screaming while trying to video myself
- catching a train back and forth between 2 stations to get a clip that kind of looked like Europe
- then of course having to jump into a very dirty dredge water hole hoping to emerge again - it was risky!

I think the actual making of my my video was even more entertaining than my entry - perhaps I should have submitted that 😂

What this taught me -
That you’re never too old to take a risk and step out of your comfort zone

Yes, I would have loved to have won but I know I did my best

I think this experience has also reminded me to have more fun and that’s is ok to look silly (ok ridiculous 😂) - if not now then when?

So, for now I’ll continue my monthly mini adventures - but watch this space - I hope to be dialling in to client calls from far off places in the future as I create my own gap year 😊

When it comes to unique places to stay, I loved this mini adventure so much

I’ve been wanting to stay at the Wilson’s Prom lighthouse keepers cottage for decades and I’m so happy I finally did it

The fact that the only way to get there was by hiking nearly 20km made it that much more special! Don’t talk about the 1km ultra steep hike at the end…

So many people have been asking me about the cottage so I thought I’d share more photos and videos - ask or dm me if you have any questions

Other than the rangers on duty there were 2 other cottages where you could stay in bunk beds with your own sleeping bag and share facilities

My dream was always to stay in Banks Cottage which caters for just 2 people
It has a queen bed, nice bed linen, a bathroom, towels and cooking facilities - it’s definitely glamping!

You do have to bring your own food and carry out any rubbish - but it was actually fun working out what to carry and cook

The living area is so cosy and I spent hours looking out to sea and trying to spot whales through the telescope (sadly none but I did see a yacht and some ships)

We got there just after 2pm, so had the afternoon to enjoy the cottage and learn more about the histor -it’s actually still a working lighthouse

And in the morning we wandered around and enjoyed a leisurely breakfast before heading off a longer way back (see my day 3 reel)

My monthly mini adventures are definitely helping me achieve my goal of creating an energised life I love

Can’t wait to share where I’m going next month 😊
