βοΈπββοΈ Hello Winter! πββοΈβοΈ
The first day of winter has arrived, but that doesnβt mean we stop climbing!
Cooler mornings, shorter days and a few extra layers are all part of the season. Winter is actually one of the best times to hit the stairs β crisp air, fewer excuses, and that unbeatable feeling when youβve finished a climb and warmed yourself from the inside out.
Whether youβre training for an event, chasing a PB, or simply climbing for fitness and friendship, every step counts.
So grab your beanie, pull on your SCA colours, and keep moving this winter. ππ
Hereβs to another season of stair climbing, good health, great company, and plenty of stairs!
Whoβs climbing this winter? πβοΈ
Should we challenge them to do The Nutbush up the stairs? π
The #1 predictor of how long youβll live isnβt your weight, your steps, or how often you lift, itβs your VO2 max and how efficiently your body uses oxygen.
And one of the best ways to build it? Zone 2 cardio ππ₯
HOW TO FIND YOUR ZONE 2:
βοΈ Pace where you can talk but not sing
βοΈ Around 60β70% of your max heart rate
βοΈ Feels like a 5β6/10 effort
βοΈ Nose breathing should still be possible
HOW MUCH PER WEEK:
β‘οΈ Aim for around 150 mins weekly
β‘οΈ Break it into 3β4 sessions
β‘οΈ New to it? Start with 20β30 mins and build gradually
WAYS TO GET IT DONE:
π Incline walking
π΄ Easy bike rides
π₯Ύ Rucking (adding weight vest)
π Steady swim laps
π Long walks with hills
π Walking during calls
π§ Podcasts or audiobooks to make the time fly
And yesβ¦ stairs count π
Not every session needs to be all-out. The longest-lasting athletes build a strong aerobic base by moving steadily for long periods consistently.

280kms from Porto to Santiago de Compostelaβ¦ completed β
SCA member Margaret Butera crossed the finish line of an incredible Camino journey, only to be greeted by one final challengeβ¦ stairs π
After days of covering kilometre after kilometre, the steps leading up to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela still had to be conquered. The grand staircase at the Obradoiro façade has welcomed pilgrims for centuries, making it a fitting final climb after such a journey.
From one challenge to the next β because stair climbers always find stairs wherever they go ππ
π Congratulations Margaret!
