A huge congratulations to Sam Hayes, who brings up 250 games for MHSOBFC this weekend.

A product of Melbourne High School, Sam made his debut for the Unicorns as a 16-year-old in 2010. After making his senior debut aged 17, Sam finished his age—group career captaining the U-19s and making the VAFA Team of the Year.

Sam was a crucial member of the reserves during a time of prolonged success, the highlight of which being the 2016 premiership, and was named both Players’ Player for 2014 and reserves captain for 2019 during this period.

When matches returned following the COVID hiatus, Sam took his football to another level. Now an ever-present member of the seniors, Sam’s commitment to getting the best out of himself whilst helping others do the same was rewarded in 2026 when he captained the club for the first time.

A fixture of our Unicorns community, Sam’s devotion to the club, willingness to get involved, and ready smile have helped make MHSOBFC the place it is today. 250 games is a great testament to all his hard work, and we look forward to many more yet to come.

Congratulations to Will Hellier, who plays his 100th game for MHSOBFC this Saturday.

Will joined the Unicorns in 2018, playing in a grand final in the development squad, before making his senior debut the following year.

In 2021, playing in a side destined for finals before COVID’s interruption, Will won the club’s Best and Fairest, and following a year away in 2022 he has remained ever present in the senior side. Will’s excellence has also been recognised at league level, being selected in the Division Two Team of the Year in 2021, 2023 and 2025.

A walking highlights package, Will’s aerial exploits have made him a much-loved fan favourite.

We look forward to seeing Will light up the Woodfull-Miller for many years to come!
