❤️🤍 CAL DIXON - 300 SENIOR GAMES 🤍❤️

Some milestones are special, and 300 senior games is certainly one of the more rare milestones we see!

This Saturday, Cal Dixon plays his 300th senior game, cementing a career built on toughness, loyalty and an uncompromising will to compete.

Making his senior debut as a fearless 16-year-old back in 2008, Cal has gone on to play 300 senior games, with an incredible 253 in the red and white. Aside from a short stint away that produced 37 games at Somerville and 10 at Mordialloc, Karingal has always been home.

His football resume speaks for itself; multiple Senior Best & Fairest awards, Young Gun of the Year, Interleague honours and the privilege of captaining the club.

But numbers and accolades only tell part of the story.

Cal is one of the fiercest competitors you’ll find. Tough as nails, incredibly reliable and never one to take a backwards step, he’s spent nearly two decades making life miserable for the opposition. Yet it’s his football IQ, composure and skill that have made him one of the competition’s most respected players.

From bursting onto the scene as a lean wingman with elite speed and endurance, to becoming a commanding defender, and now reinventing himself with a few goals up forward, Cal has continually evolved while always putting the team first.

Congratulations, Cal, on an achievement very few players will ever experience. Thank you for everything you’ve given our football club over the past 18 seasons.

I’ve had the pleasure of playing alongside Cal for a fair chunk of his 300 senior games and was certainly there for the start. I was even his “senior buddy” back in the day, supposedly as a bit of a mentor for him coming into the senior footy ranks. Not too sure what he got out of it, but I can assure you I wasn’t the reason for him being in some sort of onfield scuffle in about 286 of his 300 games haha! From that point it was evident that Cal was a special player and his physicality, competitiveness and outstanding skill have been a highlight for Bulls supporters for many years. His recent move up forward has added yet another string to his bow and might be his spot in his more twilight years….here’s hoping he goes around again next year! Congrats on 300 superb games Cal!

The 2026 season is not far from wrapping up, but there’s still plenty to be excited about!

📝 MATCH REPORT | Jude Donovan

Some days simply don't go your way, and today was one of those days.

Coming into the match without our two key goalers and missing captain Lilly Matthews, whose work at WA is so important to the way we play, meant we were always going to be challenged. Credit to the players who stepped into unfamiliar roles and continued to compete until the final whistle.

While the scoreboard wasn't what we wanted, there were still positives to take away. MVB goes to Zara, who was outstanding. She gave everything across Centre, Wing Attack and Goal Attack, covering huge minutes, working tirelessly and refusing to stop competing regardless of the scoreline. Her effort and willingness to do whatever the team needed was exactly the standard we want to see.

The result also highlighted some important lessons. We drifted away from our structures and the simple fundamentals that have served us well throughout the season. When pressure built, we forced passes, moved away from our patterns and didn't consistently execute the basics.

The good news is those are things we can control.

We'll get back to training this week, revisit our structures, sharpen our fundamentals and make sure we're ready to respond. Football and netball seasons aren't defined by one tough afternoon, they're defined by how you bounce back.

Next stop: Somerville. Time to reset, put in the work and show the brand of netball we know we're capable of. ❤️

📝 MATCH REPORT | Kasey Boxall

Taking on second-placed Bonbeach was always going to be a tough challenge, and despite a determined effort, we went down 37–47.

The first quarter took us a little while to settle into the game. We turned over too much ball early and allowed Bonbeach to dictate the tempo. In the second quarter, we addressed those areas by taking the shorter option, creating multiple leads, and lifting our defensive pressure across the court. The response was fantastic, and we fought our way back to trail by just three goals at half time.

The second half brought an increase in physicality, but the girls never backed down. They competed hard for every contest, stayed composed, and continued to play with positivity and determination. Our defenders created valuable turnovers through strong intercepts and rebounds, while our goalers adapted brilliantly, using their smarts and movement to outplay their defenders. I was particularly impressed with our midcourters, who worked tirelessly with repeated leads and strong preliminary movement to create space and patiently build our attacking play.

Unfortunately, we finished the game with a few injuries, and we wish all of those players a speedy recovery.

MVB: Kiah Steele
This week’s MVB goes to Kiah Steele for a great performance through the midcourt. Kiah was unfazed by the physicality of the contest, driving hard at the ball, creating strong options, and delivering beautiful, composed feeds into the goal circle. You’ve been an absolute star, and we’re certainly hoping to keep you around. Well done, Kiah!

📝 MATCH REPORT | Em Williams

A huge team performance saw us come away with another four points, with every player contributing to a complete performance across the court!

After an even first half with just a 5 goal lead at 1/2 time, the group responded brilliantly. We adjusted, stayed patient with ball in hand, valued possession and lifted another gear after the main break, winning the third quarter by 11 goals to put ourselves in control.

Our defensive pressure was outstanding all day, shutting down ball movement and forcing our opponents to play on our terms. At the other end, our attack adapted beautifully, creating space, trusting the process and capitalising on every opportunity.

What continues to impress most is this group’s versatility. We communicate, adapt in real time, trust each other and embrace whatever challenge is thrown our way. That’s what makes this team so special!

Congratulations to Jess on a well-deserved MVB. After a very solid few weeks, Jess put on yet another outstanding performance, winning ball and providing valuable transition support across the court. Job well done! 👏

With just three H&A games remaining, we feel the pressure start to build - but that’s not a bad thing at all. We’ll stay focused, keep improving and embrace every challenge as we charge towards finals ❤️🤍

📝 MATCH REPORT | Carlee Lewis

A valiant effort from our girls today, going down by just two goals. While it wasn’t the result we were chasing, the growth since our last meeting with Bonbeach was undeniable and that’s something we’re incredibly proud of. ❤️

A huge congratulations to Charlie “Bucket” on her senior debut, making an immediate impact with a commanding performance. Grace and Sienna also rotated into the side seamlessly, adding plenty of composure and confidence when their number was called.

Our attacking combinations of Cha, Jess, Jaeda, Gabby and Charlie adapted brilliantly as we made changes throughout the game, while Hannah, Sienna, Grace, Maddie and Layla stood tall in the defensive end, adjusting to a physical goal circle and never taking a backward step.

The girls fought until the final whistle, backed each other in every contest, and showed just how far they’ve come. Plenty to build on as we head into another big week. ❤️🤍🐮

📝 MATCH REPORT | Beck Cornish

It wasn’t the result we were chasing on Saturday, going down 37-35 to Bonbeach in a game that could have gone either way.

We started the match with great intensity, setting the tone early with strong defensive pressure and some excellent passages of play through the court. Unfortunately, we lost some momentum in the second quarter. We didn’t value possession as well as we know we can, and against a quality side those turnovers quickly turned into goals.

However our response after halftime was positive. The girls refused to let the game slip away like last time we played them. We won moments throughout the second half, but just couldn’t quite do enough to overturn the deficit.

While the loss sees us slip to fourth on the ladder, there are plenty of positives to take away. It wasn’t our cleanest game, but the determination and belief were there for all four quarters. With three rounds remaining, we know what we need to work on and if we can do that, we’re more than capable of pushing back into the top three. We’ve got this 💪 Let’s Go Bulls ❤️🤍

SENIOR WOMEN
📝 MATCH REPORT | Sarah Astone & Chris Hogan

We had Tyabb at Tyabb for our last game of the home and away season, vibes were up pretty early and the girls came with a really good mindset which was definitely noticeable.
With Tyabb being there last game of the season they had nothing to lose and tried to be as physical as they could, we said before the game that nothing can change ladder wise moving into our first final. We as coaches wanted to see as much selfless footy as possible, ball movement, efficiency and structure was a key focus for us and the girls didn’t let us down!.
We came away with a 149 point win and should take big confidence coming into this weekend against Frankston.
Standouts this week were: Cori!!, Beano, Carly, Bron and Mia who all played superb games.

SENIORS
📝 MATCH REPORT | Nathan Burke

With 6 forced outs due to injury from the week before it was always going to be a young team. When the old man Cal Dixon pulled out the day of the game it was definitely going to be a youthful mob.
Caleb Black became our 4ths oldest player in the team at age 22.

But this brings opportunity and we took on Bonbeach full of enthusiasm.

Despite our usual unwavering effort we were no match for the bigger bodies and height that Bonbeach has.
Losing 3 players before half time through injury wasn’t helpful. And then another one in the third meant we had no rotations in the last. Again, despite the adversity the boys kept cracking in. Josh Cornish had his best senior game for the club whilst Matt Friendly was doing the same before an ankle injury ruled him out of the game. Young gun Noah Groves sustained a badly cut finger with the sight of his own blood causing some dizziness.

The score in the end was irrelevant. The important point we took from the game is that our baseline of having a crack, every game, no matter the score or opponent will stand us in good stead in the coming years. These young men are proudly doing the best they can. And will one day look back at this period of their career understanding that it was these tough times that built them.
Three big weeks to come. Lots of injuries but with this comes amazing opportunities.

RESERVES
📝 MATCH REPORT | Trav Dorsett

It’s called big boy month for a reason, Bonbeach had a seasoned, hardened team with a wealth of experience that ended in a tough day out for the Reserves, going down by 22 points. The scoreboard tells part of the story — we were competitive in patches but couldn’t find the sustained pressure needed to challenge for four quarters.

Bonbeach jumped out to an early lead, kicking 3.2 to our 1.1 in the first term, and controlled the tempo from there. We found some rhythm in the second quarter, adding 2.1 to match their intensity somewhat, but the gap had already been set. The third quarter saw both sides trade evenly, and in the last we matched them goal for goal in a positive sign for effort through to the final siren, even with the result out of reach.

Ryan Cutler was best on ground, showing composure and drive across the four quarters. Emerson Forster and Oscar Dawes both put in strong efforts, whilst Aidan Lang, and Denver Lusk rounded out a solid core who kept competing when the game had slipped away.

There’s plenty to work on this week at training — particularly getting our starts right and matching intensity from the opening bounce. The back-half improvement shows the group has the fight; now it’s about bringing that for the full four quarters. Onwards to next week.

RESERVES WOMEN
📝 MATCH REPORT | Michael Black

On Saturday we hosted Frankston at home in near perfect conditions as we looked to improve on a poor performance last week.

We started a little slowly although winning our share of the footy & headed to quarter time a point up.
The second quarter we lifted our contested work but through not taking many risks and having a lot of shallow entries into the forward line we found ourselves a goal up at the main break.
The second half our work rate lifted , we started to move the ball better which resulted in repeat inside 50 entries that eventually cracked the opposition to eventually run out 15 point winners.
Our midfield led the way with Mikayla clearly our best player and ample support from Danika,Ava,Sammi & Paige who all ran for the full 80 minutes. Overall a solid team performance & a win we needed heading into this Sundays Semi Final Clash with Frankston.
