Iran’s World Cup squad has reportedly been told that for matches played in the United States, they must enter American soil on matchday and leave the same day. If true, this is not just a travel restriction — it is a serious blow to the spirit of fair competition.

A World Cup should be about football, preparation, equality, and respect between nations. No team can perform at its best when it is treated differently from every other side in the tournament. Players need time to train, recover, attend media duties, adjust mentally, and prepare like professionals. Forcing one team into rushed same-day travel creates an unfair disadvantage before the ball is even kicked.

Politics should never be allowed to decide the conditions of sport. Whatever the tensions between governments may be, players should not be punished for carrying their national flag.

FIFA cannot stay silent on this. If football is truly for everyone, then every team must be protected equally.
