Midnight Resto’s

We got the band back together one more time, to tidy up a good mate’s boat.
Logistical nightmare 🤦‍♂️ but we got it done.

We have a few on display at St Anne’s winery today.

We are deep into the Pontiac, Stock Car (NASCAR) build.

Here’s some of the major items completed or underway, amongst many other smaller jobs ticked off.
The car has been measured from front to back and everywhere in between.
Centre lines and datum points marked.
Front and rear end geometry measured, moment and roll centers calculated.
The car has been weighed. Weight and weight position/distribution is something we are focusing on throughout the build.
Engine and gearbox position set.
Fabricating mounts.
Diff housing/camber modifications.
New steering column fabricated and machined, working on seat and pedals position.
Bodywork modifications to make the car more symmetrical. Mainly front and rear quarter panels/wheel arches.
Bumpers trimmed and rear spoiler position set.
Min & max ride heights set.

We also had a very special visitor to the workshop.
Australian racing/engineer legend John Sheppard!
John built this car 35+ years ago to race at Calder Park Thunderdome.
Originaly built with an Oldsmobile Delta body (red car in pics).
He came to see the car, telling some great stories from his NASCAR and touring car days, also offering some expert advice on our build.
It was an amazing experience, and we’re hoping to bring him back once the car is finished!

14 years to the day I bought Woodworx.
Today it came home so I can do a few repairs and paint it.
Feels so good to work on our own stuff again without the pressure of the business.
I haven’t really seen the boat for two years.
When dad rolled up with it tonight, I thought F**K! That’s a beautiful boat.
Can’t wait to get this thing painted, new engine built and back on the water.

My brother Matty has reached a milestone moment with his boat build.
It’s seen water, floated, driven at speed and driven back on the trailer 👏👏
Initial stages of efi tuning with another test/tune day in the coming weeks.

Unhinged Racing

Daniel’s 1965 170 Seacraft (my old boat). I sold the boat to Daniel around 20 years ago and it’s served him well. He’s restored the boat again over the last few years. This is the last boat I painted before closing the workshop. It’s great to see it looking new again. Hine Signs in Bacchus Marsh recreated the sign work and did an outstanding job 👍 Daniel has a pretty nice HG Premier to tow the boat with also 👌

A few weeks ago, when we were at Calder Park.
I was lucky to be given rides around the Thunderdome in a couple of AUSCARS.
One Commodore, the other a Falcon.
Pretty much flat out too 💪
It’s been almost 30 years since the last time I was on the dome in a race car and it’s still just as fun 👍

Young Jake is ramping up his racing career, so jump onto his page and follow along, Jake Frisch motorsport
Jake started in go karts, then jumped straight into driving a couple of Stock Cars Australia National series rounds, in one of Richard White Racing - RWR stock cars - #3 Chevy Lumina.
It was that good he’s purchased his own NASCAR/STOCK CAR, a 1990’s Pontiac Grand Prix.
The car requires a full build but is an excellent starting point. It has had a few improvements and upgrades from its 1980’s origins and we’re helping Jake reach the goal of a 2025-2026 debut.
You will want to keep an eye on this build 😉.

We also dragged out an original HQ race car to have a run at Calder a few weeks ago.
After going over it mechanically and giving it a good clean, it was once again driven spiritedly by Jake around Calder Park circuit and Thunderdome.
Unfortunately a rear tyre let go on the dome, so we now have a bit of panel and paint repairs to do 🤦‍♂️.
