Congratulations to Simone Albiston for breaking the women’s single arm weight throw, incidentally her first time throwing single arm and she breaks the Victorian record for her age group. How great is that with many more exciting results to come in the near future. Big thanks to our hardworking and patient Athletics WaverleyThrowers Coach Shane Carstairs.

The 2026 AGM will be held at the clubrooms on Sunday 17th May at 10am. Please come along to support the club and hear about some exciting new plans for the pavilion.

March is Championship month. Australian Masters Championships at Canberra followed by Victorian Masters Championships at Doncaster. And next weekend is Athletics Victoria State Championships. Congratulations to all the Waverley and Malvern athletes who have competed so far, bagging multiple medals.

Yesterday we had a Waverley team in the state open 3x shot put relay. It’s not quite a relay as we know it, but there’s teams of 3 with the best throws of each added together. Representing us were Shane Carstairs, Greg Carstairs and Jack Ashcroft.

Our boys threw well and pulled off a state Silver medal with Shane 3rd best overall and Jack 5th best. That’s back to back silver medals for our Waverley shot put team.

M 50+ 4 x 1500m relay by James Atkinson

Waverley entered a 4x1500m relay team in the Vic relay championships last night. Despite missing House, Davin and Martin, we still had a very good team.

Craig Sanford led us off and despite trailing some fast 40+ runners early on, he moved up nicely to give us a 30m lead over Box Hill.
Tim Stuckey was second and gave us a bit of a scare when Box Hill moved up to his shoulder with 1 lap to go. But Tim ran an awesome 72 second last lap to change to James McEniry with a 40 m lead.
Box Hill similarly progressively moved up to within 15m with a lap to go and had their gun Kynan Dawes waiting for the last lap. It but James also ran a blinder of a last lap to give David Venour a 50m lead on the last leg.
Kynan took off like a cut cat, but Smoothy was just too good and ended up extending our lead to about 70m. And it was gold for Waverley, with Box Hill second and Ballarat 3rd.
That is Waverley’s 3rd year in a row winning this event. Congratulations on an awesome win.

Our training this week:

Tuesday: Caulfield Racecourse – fartlek session
Training at 6pm followed by a picnic from 7pm.
Dress for the races eg. colourful.
BYO picnic.
To access, go through the gate at the end of Glen Eira road which will open automatically as you get near. Drive through the tunnel under the racecourse to the magic bbq and picnic area inside the racecourse.
It’s also the birthday of our special President.

The Waverley Gift in association with the Victorian Athletic League is taking place on Sunday 7th of December.

This is held at Waverley Athletics centre, Central Reserve Glen Waverley, corner of Springvale and Waverley Road. There is a range of races from 70m up to 1600m, within U14, U18, Open, Masters 35+ and 45+.



We would love to have you involved! Win prizes and prize money on the day, with over $15k up for grabs across our races. These races are handicapped, allowing a fair chance for all athletes*.



There is a number of membership options available through the VAL:

Under 14 athlete season membership FREE

Under 18 athlete season membership $80

Open 4 meet trial membership $80

Optional run at 10am from Black Rock Life Saving Club along the beach trails. We can park on Beach Road from 10am.
