Snow resorts play a critical role in regional economies, supporting jobs, infrastructure and tourism across alpine and surrounding communities.
At the 2026 Snow Summit, we’ll explore this through “Beyond the Mountains: Snow, Communities and Regional Prosperity.”
Our panel will feature Olivia West (CEO, Regional Development Australia Southern NSW & ACT), Kirsten Alexander (CEO, Mansfield Shire Council) and Michelle Lovell (President, Falls Creek Chamber of Commerce).
The session will explore how industry, government and local stakeholders can work more effectively together to support stronger regional outcomes, including how alpine resorts interact with surrounding communities and where value is created and shared.
The conversation will examine both the opportunities and the tensions that come with the snow industry’s role as a major driver of regional activity.

Across Australia’s alpine resorts, thousands of women contribute to the success of our industry every day.
Over the past decade, the Australian snow industry has seen more women step into leadership, technical and on-mountain roles than ever before, strengthening the depth and capability of our workforce.
As the industry continues to evolve, ensuring the snow sector remains a place where women can build long and successful careers will remain an important conversation. It’s a topic we’ll explore further at the 2026 Snow Summit, where leaders from across the industry will come together to discuss the future of our workforce.
Today we recognise and thank the many women whose work helps keep Australia’s alpine resorts running each winter.

Last night Cooper Woods Moguls delivered something extraordinary, becoming Australia’s latest Winter Olympic gold medallist.
From his early days in Perisher's Winter Sports Club to standing on top of the Olympic podium in Milano Cortina, Cooper’s journey is a powerful example of what’s possible when talent, dedication and opportunity align.
Perisher’s long-standing commitment to moguls, including continued investment in the “Toppa’s Dream” course and its recent partnership with Olympic Winter Institute of Australia to further enhance snowmaking capability, has helped ensure Australian athletes have access to world-class training environments at home. It's just one example of the sustained investment Australian resorts make in facilities and programs that underpin athlete development pathways across the country.
Across the country, Australian resorts invest year after year in lifts, terrain, snowmaking and on-mountain facilities that provide the foundation for participation and performance. They are where thousands of children take their first turns each winter, and where some go on to pursue excellence at the very highest level.
“Congratulations to Cooper on an extraordinary Olympic gold medal performance,” said Josh Elliott, CEO of Snow Resorts Australia. “To see an athlete who began his journey on Aussie mountains rise to the very top of the sport is something our entire alpine community can be proud of. Cooper’s success is a powerful reminder of the role Australia’s alpine sector plays in fostering and developing the next generation of athletes, from first turns through to the world stage.”
Today we celebrate Cooper, his family, his coaches and the broader team behind him. His gold medal will inspire the next generation of Australian skiers who are getting ready to take their first turns this winter.
Congratulations Cooper! ⛷️🥇
