A SPECIAL VISIT FROM OUR LOCAL MP
Last night, Werribee Bears Rugby League Sports Club Inc had the pleasure of welcoming our local MP for Werribee, John Lister, back to his rugby league roots.
As a former fullback for Altona's U16s, John wasted no time reigniting his rugby league days, getting involved with our juniors through kicking drills, passing sessions, and plenty of laughs along the way. Our players, volunteers, and committee members also had the opportunity to ask John a range of questions about leadership, teamwork, community, and the important role grassroots sporting clubs play in shaping the next generation.
We spoke about everything from his favourite rugby league memories and the lessons the game has taught him, to the challenges facing grassroots sport and how clubs and government can work together to strengthen local communities.
One thing that stood out throughout the evening was the shared belief that community sporting clubs provide so much more than a game. They create safe spaces, lifelong friendships, opportunities for personal growth, and a sense of belonging for young people and families alike.
As our club continues to rebuild and grow, we remain committed to providing a positive environment for our players and their families. We also look forward to seeing continued investment in community sporting facilities that support not only the Werribee Bears, but all local sporting clubs working hard to provide opportunities for our youth to thrive.
To top off the evening, John enjoyed our canteen special of the night Butter Chicken before being presented with his very own Werribee Bears jersey.
Our juniors had an absolute blast spending time with you, John, and we thank you for taking the time to visit our club, meet our members, and see firsthand the incredible community that continues to grow around the Bears.
Congratulations to you and your partner as you prepare to grow your family, we wish you all the very best for the future. And remember, now that you've got a Bears jersey, we'll be expecting to see you at senior training 6:30pm sharp!
Thank you for your support, and we look forward to welcoming you back to the Bears again soon.

π» LONG WEEKEND WRAP UP π»
This long weekend brought some of our teams together for much-needed bonding, connection, nourishment, and active recovery. Families and supporters were out in force, proudly cheering on our Bears, who represented at the Koro Walker Cup and Sua Faalogo Cup.
Our U10 White team filled the clubrooms with laughter & dishes fit for a king while created memories that will last long after the weekend ended. Our U16 Girls swapped the footy field for the beach, while our U14 Girls and U18 Boys continued to put in the work on the field. As Melbourne weather did what it does best and delivered all four seasons in a day, our U14 Black Boys wrapped up the long weekend with some valuable team bonding.
Weekends like these remind us that rugby league is about more than just what happens on game day. It's about building connections, strengthening team culture, and creating a community that supports one another both on and off the field.
While the long weekend has come to an end, we go again, training is back tomorrow!
A huge thank you to our volunteers who make weekends like this possible. As we continue to rebuild and grow our club, we are incredibly grateful for your unwavering support, dedication, and countless hours you pour into our teams as it doesn't go unnoticed.
See you all soon π»

Werribee bears long weekend message
On behalf of the Werribee Bears Committee, we would like to wish all of our Bears families a fantastic, happy, and hopefully not-too-chilly long weekend!
Whether you're spending time at home, catching up with family and friends, or heading away for a few days, we hope you enjoy the break. If you're travelling, please stay safe and if you're heading somewhere warm and sunny, save us a spot because we're coming too! πβοΈ
Take this opportunity to regroup, recharge, and re-energise. Rugby League can be busy, and the long weekend is the perfect chance to enjoy some downtime before we get back into it and go again next week.
Most importantly, we want you to know that we see YOU and we appreciate YOU.
To our players who show up each week ready to learn and give their best.
To our coaches and volunteers who generously give their time.
To our managers, first aiders, and committee members who work tirelessly behind the scenes.
To our parents, grandparents, carers, siblings, and supporters standing on the sidelines in all weather conditions
Thank you π
Community clubs are built on people, and every single one of you plays a part in making the Werribee Bears the special club that it is.
Your commitment, encouragement, patience, and support do not go unnoticed.
Enjoy the break, stay safe, make some memories with your loved ones, and we'll see everyone back refreshed and ready for another great week of Bears rugby league.
