Introducing our newest grassroots coach, Coach Seven 🎾

We’re so proud to officially introduce Karo “Seven” Tere, the elder brother of Coach Vere Tere, as our new Saturday morning coach for RaiKau and Alewai villages in Hula.

Following our recent women’s program, we were able to donate a few rackets (including some pre-loved ones), a net, and red balls—creating an opportunity for tennis to continue right in the heart of the community.

And there’s no better person to lead this than Uncle Seven, who will be running sessions right outside his yard. Uncle is still fishing and gardening, even at his young age of 72, so he continues to keep himself in shape.

Uncle Seven brings with him a strong foundation in the game, having spent many years learning from Coach Vera and Coach Kwalam Apisah throughout the 2000s. His knowledge, passion, and willingness to give back make him the perfect person to grow the sport at the grassroots level. We hope that he can bring under his wing 1 or 2 women from the program to work with him and continue to expand their knowledge of the sport. Starting with his grand daughter Agivanagi, who was one of the participants during the “Community Level Play Tennis Coaching Course”.

Thank you, Coach Seven, for stepping up and leading the way for the next generation. We can’t wait to see you bring some of your players down to Port Moresby for upcoming tournaments!

While we are in the spirit of giving back, coaches were finally able to donate another batch of tennis clothes from Coach Martin of Tennis Australia, Northern Territory.

Majority of this particular batch of clothes were donated by Australia’s doubles specialist Marc Polmans who was the finalist at this years Men’s Doubles at the Australian Open in Melbourne! How amazing👏🏾

Thank you also to Adelaide Senior and Patrick Koliwan for adding to the gift of giving by handing out brand new QAQA water bottles for these players. Thank you ❤️

It’s mornings like this that reminded me why I love what I do ❤️ Mini Tennis in Alewai village

Came back to my village to run a community coaching course… but sometimes things don’t go to plan — and that’s okay. Because what unfolded was even better.

So many kids gathered around just watching us set up, full of curiosity and excitement. You could see it in their eyes… they just wanted a chance to play.

We took 30-45 minutes, let them jump in, hit some balls, laugh, learn — and finished off with a mini competition that brought so much energy and joy 🎾

To top it all off, we handed out donated shirts from — moments like that mean everything.

Huge thank you to Coach Martin for making that possible 🙏

Sometimes the best sessions are the unplanned ones.
