However, Olivia is most definitely not new to the Lifecare team, working on reception for the last 5 years whilst studying at university.

Olivia has grown up on the Peninsula, participating in gymnastics and both competition and patrolling with Mt Martha Lifesaving Club. Olivia also has over 4 years experience working as an Exercise Scientist at Kieser.

Areas of interest: Hydrotherapy,
Musculoskeletal Injuries, Strength and Conditioning, particularly for the ageing population, Falls Prevention and Chest Physiotherapy.

Markela, from broken femur, to actively gardening in her 70’s!

In 2022, Markela unfortunately sustained a nasty leg and wrist fracture after a dance floor accident. She underwent 2 surgeries to repair her injuries. During her recovery Markela was experiencing knee, lateral thigh and nasty nerve pain, however this did not stop her from getting straight into rehabilitation. Being a keen gardener, cook and volunteer tutor, Markela’s goals were obvious and she was eager to achieve them.

Original goals
⭐️ Increase lower limb strength
⭐️ Increase Lumbar spine strength
⭐️ Improve balance
⭐️ 10-15 steps daily
⭐️ Get back to gardening and reaching the ground to plant seeds
⭐️ Ability to get her self from the ground to standing
⭐️ Ability to drive

Since her injury, Markela has been extremely diligent in her rehabilitation. Markela engaged in hydrotherapy and 2 x clinical exercise classes a week with our physiotherapists Paula and Jack. Her commitment has been impressive and we as a team are happy with her progress.

Now!! Markela is back to driving regularly to the city, her beloved gardening….. and getting her steps in maintaining her lovely acerage property.
Markela even assisted Lifecare Benton’s in making sure the garden at our new facility, including advice and providing cuttings but also got her hands dirty 🌷

Jack has extensive clinical experience including orthopaedics, vertigo and elite sport.

In addition to a Bachelor of Physiotherapy with Honours, Jack holds a Post-Graduate Certificate in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Football Medicine. He has attended many post-grad courses gaining skills in additional areas such as jaw and dizziness conditions
