August Friday Night Shootout Results
After a second place finish last December, Cam Morris has gone one better on Friday night to win the August edition of the Shoot Out. Tournament sponsor, Peter Michael hit off first on the night and set up a very challenging distance of 176 cm. Next to the tee was Cam Morris who stuck it to 166 cm. While others came close to hitting the green, the anticipation was for the last player on the night and Friday Night specialist, Ben Neal to see if he could hit it inside Cam's distance. Ben's shot just missed the green to the left and so Cam was able to take out the night. Thanks again to our second place sponsors for your ongoing support.
Our next shoot out will actually be on Friday 2 October as part of our HUGE Week of Golf. This shoot out will serve as the September qualifier and so we will have the October qualifier on the last Friday in October.

Saturday 29 August - Single Stableford and 2 Ball Aggregate Event - The Bob Christensen Memorial Day
What a cracking day we had yesterday for The Bob Christensen Memorial Day where if your surname was Thom you featured heavily on the winners list.
In A Grade, at age 79, Fred Thom shot 78 off the stick to record a great 40 points including a 4 point birdie on the 13th. Congratulations Freddy on shooting one less than your age. Fantastic achievement. Only a point back was Marty Hymann with 39 points. In the Gross Event, Matt Kelly had birdies on 1 and 12 on his way to a gross 31 points to win the day.
In B Grade, Tom Stewart and Tangled Up in Bob, Dave Debs, battled it out when both had 38 points but it was Tom who won on a countback.
In C Grade both Kay Ireland our winner and Kevin Brindle in second place reached the 40 mark. Kay went out with 23 points and despite a hiccup on the 13th finished strongly with 18 points. Kevin got his day off to a great start with a 4 point birdie on the 1st but was even more pleased to have no wipes on his card after 18 holes. Definitely a great achievement when playing a Stableford event.
In the 2 Ball Aggregate event, it was the other Thom, Julie, who paired up with Kay Ireland to post an incredible 79 points. Well Done ladies.
Thank you to everyone who came out and support The Bob Christensen Day.
Next week is Monthly Medal Day where we also get to honour another past member, Dick (The Butcher" Carter.

Judy Hannan MP - Member for Wollondilly visits The Highlands Golf Club
Today our local NSW State MP, Judy Hannan visited the Highlands Golf Club to inspect Stage 1 of the upgrade to cart path between the 15th and 16th tee. The funding was part of the NSW Governments Sporting Grants Initiative. Judy also made time to meet with our wonderful volunteers as well as some of our local artists getting ready for their Spring collection. We appreciate your continued support Judy.

UPCOMING SATURDAY COMPETITIONS IN SEPTEMBER
We have a host of great Saturday events coming up for the start of the spring golfing season at The Highlands Golf Club. It all begins on Saturday 5 September with the Dick Carter Memorial Monthly Medal. "The Butchers Block", located on the intersection of the 9th and 11th tees is in honour of Dick who was a great member of the club for so many years.
Then on September 12 we have an Individual Stableford and 2 Ball Best Ball competition followed by another Individual Stableford on September 19 where you can Choose Your Own Tee to play off for the day.
To round out the first month of Spring, we have the Mixed Foursomes Championship where players will be battling it out for The Gilbey Cup, a trophy that goes all the way back to 1929 of our Club's history. Here's the brief history of the Trophy.
From The Southern Mail - Friday 13 September 1929 - THE GILBEY CUP
Mr. Edward Collins, of Melbourne, who donated a Cup, to be known as the Gilbey Cup, to Mittagong Golf Club, as a mark of his appreciation of the kindness extended to him
when he met with a motor accident near Mittagong some time ago, has
approved of the conditions suggestedby the Match Committee for the competition. In a letter to the Secretary of the Club, Mr. Collins says he is arranging for a trophy to be sent to the club, with 2 replicas for the winners of the Mixed Foursomes. He
is now completely recovered from the effects of the accident and sends
best wishes for the Club. Measured Golf Anthony Storich Golf

WHO IS GOING TO STOP HIM???
That's the question on everybodyโs lips as we head into the August edition of the Friday Night Shootout. Ben Neal has already racked up 4 wins this season and I'm sure is looking to pocket the cash on Friday 28 August from 6:30 pm.You even have a chance to take home second prize from our friends .
You don't need to be a member or have a golf handicap to compete in this challenge. You just need to make it over the creek and onto the green. Sounds pretty simple!!
We are looking forward to seeing lots of challengers for this month's title.

Saturday 22 August - Single Stableford Results
A fantastic day at the Highlands Golf Club yesterday where we continued to celebrate our 100 years with a special "Dress Like it's 1926" Single Stableford Event. Many players took the time to turn back the clock and wear the apparel of the stylish golfer of the 1920s. It was great to see that our best dressed male on the day, Trevor Campbell, backed up his sharp looks with some sharp golf on his way to winning C Grade. Congratulations on both wins Trev!
In A Grade, it was the man who moves the ball more than any other player, Tim May who finished on top with 37 points. Deb Finlaison finished in second place with 35 points alongside Dave Newman who rounded out the top 3. Simon Mostyn took out the Gross Stableford event with 26 points.
In B Grade, Satoko Hayashi birdied 10 and 14 on her way to 22 points on the back nine to win it from Mr Hole in One, Mitch Bayliss with Thomas Shakeshaft coming in third.
In C Grade, Mike Hyland (38 points) and Ross Chase (37 points) couldn't quite beat the best dressed man of the day but managed to take out second and third places respectively.
It was great seeing so many players taking to the course yesterday and you can certainly see the signs of early spring growth on the fairways and greens.
