𝑰𝒏𝒄𝒍𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝑺𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑺𝒑𝒐𝒕𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕

Newcastle Herald will be shining a spotlight on an important weekend of inclusive sport in Newcastle, with Para Standing Petanque and Para Standing Tennis featured in tomorrow’s Around the Grounds section.

From Friday 21 August to Sunday 23 August, athletes, coaches and participants will come together to showcase the opportunities available through inclusive sport.

For the Newcastle Petanque Club, the weekend begins Friday afternoon with a Para Standing Petanque Come and Try Program, giving participants the opportunity to experience the sport, develop new skills and discover the social and health benefits of pétanque.

A special mention must go to Kai Ryan, a Newcastle Petanque Club member who has played an important role in bringing this weekend together. As a participant, organiser and club member, Kai has been instrumental in promoting Para Standing Petanque and creating the opportunity for others to experience the sport.

The weekend will also feature Para Standing Tennis at Discover Sports Group in Lambton on Saturday and Sunday, with television personality and disability advocate Adam Hills joining the activities throughout the weekend.

It is fantastic to see inclusive sport receiving this level of attention, and we look forward to welcoming participants to the Newcastle Petanque Club.

A big thank you to the Boules Artistes Petanque Club for hosting a fantastic Open Doubles competition yesterday.

Ten Newcastle members made the trip down to Sydney, and it was great to see such a strong contingent representing the club.
The competition was well organised and ran smoothly from start to finish, with some great pétanque played across all divisions.

We were also lucky enough to have the weather gods on our side, with only the lightest of rain arriving towards the end of the day. Not enough to dampen the spirits - or the competition!

Franco Romani & Logan Romani - the Italian father-and-son duo taking out the B Division!

The guys clearly cooked up a storm on the pistes, serving up a winning combination of precision, consistency and perhaps just a little Italian seasoning along the way.
Congratulations, Frank and Logan - a performance to feast your eyes on!

Timothy Stevenson (playing with Karamae Chart) made it through to the semi-finals.

All of our other Newcastle teams made it through to the quarter-finals in their respective divisions - a fantastic overall performance from the club.

A special and very sincere thank you once again to Rob Meller, who travelled from Canberra to act as the non-playing umpire for the competition. Giving up his Sunday and travelling such a distance to support the event was very much appreciated. His contribution helped ensure the competition was conducted fairly and professionally.

For everyone travelling south, have a safe trip along the M1 and allow yourself plenty of time to arrive safely (note City2Surf changes).

We've been tinkering behind the scenes and have put together a new online registration system for Club Championships.

Before anyone starts writing farewell speeches for the clubhouse whiteboard... relax! 😄

𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲. The whiteboard remains the official way to register for Club Championships, and this online version is simply an opportunity for members to test the system and provide feedback.

The aim is to see whether an online option could be a useful addition in the future - not a replacement. If it proves successful, we'll consider how it might be used for selected club events down the track.

Winter Competition Round 10 - Gender Doubles delivered another fantastic afternoon of pétanque, with 31 players enjoying perfect winter conditions and some quality games across the piste.

𝐉𝐨𝐢𝐧 𝐮𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐲 5 𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫, 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 10:30𝐚𝐦 𝐭𝐨 12:00𝐩𝐦, 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐝 1.5-𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐒𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲 (as our Mixed Doubles Championship is on the Sunday).

The morning will include:
• 30 minutes – Half the group will work on pointing with Bronson, while the other half focuses on shooting with Kierran.

• 30 minutes – The groups switch, giving everyone the opportunity to train with both players.

• 30 minutes – Everyone comes together for a mock game, with Kierran and Bronson sharing their thought process, tactics and decision-making throughout the game.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐬 $10 𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧, with all proceeds going directly to Kierran and Bronson to assist with the costs of representing Australia at the World Championships.

This is a unique opportunity to improve your game, learn from two of Australia's leading players and gain an insight into the tactical side of pétanque.

What a fantastic weekend of pétanque at the NSW Gender Triples Championships, proudly hosted by the Newcastle Pétanque Club!

The championships showcased an exceptional standard of play, with some of the state's best players producing high-quality pétanque throughout the weekend. Every game was played in great spirit, with close contests, remarkable precision, and outstanding sportsmanship on display. It was wonderful to welcome players from clubs across New South Wales to Newcastle and see so many friendships renewed while competing at such a high level.
