Want to join our Rail Trail In A Day event on the East Gippsland Rail Trail and travel by public transport? ๐Ÿš†๐Ÿšฒ

If youโ€™re coming from Melbourne or further afield, hereโ€™s one way you could turn the event into a weekend away and leave the car at home.

Potential itinerary:

Friday 16 October
๐Ÿš† Catch V/Line train from Melbourne to Bairnsdale
๐Ÿจ Stay in Bairnsdale Friday night

Saturday 17 October - Rail Trail In A Day
๐Ÿšฒ 8am ride 97km Bairnsdale โ†’ Orbost
๐ŸŽถ Finish line, BBQ, music and markets in Orbost
๐Ÿจ Stay in Orbost Saturday night

Sunday 18th October
๐ŸšŒ 9am โ€” take our $50 rider + bike transfer back to Bairnsdale
๐Ÿš† 1pm V/Line train home to Melbourne.

You don't actually have to know you can ride 97km.

That's kind of the point.

Rail Trail In A Day is a challenge, but we've designed it so people can have a go without being stranded if the legs don't agree with the plan.

There are manned pit stops, refreshments and basic first aid, and if you've ridden enough for the day you can check out and be transported through to Orbost.

On Saturday 17 October, we're giving you the chance to find out.

You have 10 hours to make your way from Bairnsdale to Orbost โ€” but this isn't about racing and it isn't about proving anything to anyone else.

Ride your ride.

Make the 97km? Amazing.

Make it to Bruthen, Nowa Nowa or somewhere in between and decide that's enough? That's absolutely okay too. We've got support along the trail and pick-up options if you need them.

Youโ€™ve ridden the East Gippsland Rail Trail from Bairnsdale to Orbost.

97km. One day. And youโ€™re rolling into Orbost knowing you actually did it!

Thatโ€™s what Rail Trail in a Day is all about. Giving yourself a goal, having a go and seeing just how far you can get.

And remember โ€” this isnโ€™t a ride where youโ€™re completely on your own.

Weโ€™ll have hydration and snack stops along the trail, support out there with you, and pick-up points along the way if your legs, your battery or your day just doesnโ€™t quite go to plan.

If you make the full 97km โ€” amazing.
If you donโ€™t โ€” no stress. Weโ€™ve got you.

๐Ÿ“… 15thโ€“18th December - Departing from Orbost!

This is such a great time of year to head into the wilderness โ€” warm days, blue skies and plenty of time riding through the cool temperate rainforest and remote forest country.

Itโ€™s a supported 4-day journey, so you get the adventure and the wilderness experience without having to organise all the logistics yourself.

For this tour we now have a few accommodation options available:

โ€ข BYO caravan or tent

With just over a month until the Great East kicks off, weโ€™ve got a rare roofed accommodation option available!

Mill Cottage is a great setup for friends, couples or a small group wanting a little extra comfort for the four nights.

It has two double beds at opposite ends of the cottage, with a kitchen in between, plus single bunk beds โ€” so it works really well for two couples sharing, a group of friends, or anyone happy to split the cost.

The cottage is an additional $1,200 for all 4 nights, so if youโ€™re sharing it between a few people, itโ€™s actually fantastic value.

A little changing of the guard todayโ€ฆ and definitely a bittersweet moment. ๐Ÿ’›

The old butcher shop is about to begin its next chapter as the new Snowy River Cycling HQ!

Today Brett & Kelly from dropped in with a beautiful hamper to congratulate Michelle on taking ownership of the building and on this next step for Snowy River Cycling.

It really is something special to have this kind of support within our community as local businesses grow, change and make way for new ideas.

A huge thank you to Brett & Kel. While they no longer needed this shopfront, weโ€™re so excited to give it a new lease of life and transform it into a home for Snowy River Cycling โ€” and hopefully a little tourism hub right here in Orbost.

Thereโ€™s still plenty of work happening behind the scenes, but today felt like a pretty special milestone. ๐Ÿšฒ๐ŸŒฟ

Can you bring the family to the Rail Trail In A Day event? Absolutely. ๐Ÿšฒ

The full challenge is 97km from Bairnsdale to Orbost, but that doesnโ€™t mean everyone in the family has to ride the full distance.

One of the things we love about this event is that you can make the day work for your family.

You might have one rider taking on the full 97km, while another parent and the kids join in for a shorter section. Or perhaps you all start together and decide along the way how far everyone wants to go.

With designated pick-up points at Nicholson, Bruthen and Nowa Nowa, there are options to finish earlier if little legs โ€” or big legs! โ€” have had enough.

Then everyone can come together at the finish in Orbost for the BBQ, live music, stalls and celebrations.

Itโ€™s still a challenge, but your familyโ€™s version of the challenge doesnโ€™t have to look the same as everyone elseโ€™s.

Ride the whole trail. Ride part of it. Cheer someone on. Come and be part of the day.
