An open letter to Jordan Scardetta and every Freo fan that needs to hear it tonight,

There's nothing quite like the personal risk of playing in Grand Finals. To achieve the greatest wins, you risk the most harrowing defeats. To scale the highest heights, you risk the most damaging stumbles. To gain the happiest memories, you risk ones that (seem as though they) may haunt you forever.

But that risk is a privilege. A privilege Freo earned not only this year through strong on-field performances, but through years of good list management. Shrewd trade table dealings. Astute staffing decisions. Strong player development. The vindication of sticking with Longmuir when many doubted. The development of a club brand that is no longer ridiculed, but respected.

Those last four minutes won't define this Freo side. The next six years will.

You'll go again in 2027, better for the experience, spurred by the heartbreak - and as always, we'll be there, cheering on the bounce of that little red oval ball and yelling at our screens when little yellow tyrants scream at others to stand motionless like a statue.

What a stupid, awful, torturous, wonderful game it can be.
