STABLEHAND DAY 🌾🐴

For the kids who don’t just want to see horses... they want to know what it actually takes to care for them!

Stablehand Day is a hands-on morning where kids get stuck into the real jobs that come with looking after horses. Grooming, care, learning about horse behaviour, helping with everyday stable tasks, plus pony rides and arena games.

It’s practical, active and a little bit grubby! Exactly how a proper morning around horses should be.

Kids get the chance to build confidence, responsibility and independence while learning skills they simply don’t get from a typical holiday activity.

And for parents, it’s a drop-off and pick-up session, so you can enjoy a few quiet hours while they’re outdoors, engaged and doing something genuinely worthwhile.

PONY PAMPER DAY 🎀🐴

If your child would happily spend hours brushing a pony, decorating its mane and fussing over every little detail, this day is made for them.

Pony Pamper Day is a full morning of hands-on horsey fun which includes washing, grooming, braiding, decorating, crafts, pony rides and arena games, all in a relaxed outdoor setting where kids can simply enjoy being outside with our herd.

It’s the kind of school holiday activity that feels special because they’re involved, busy, learning, creating and spending real time with the animals they love.

And for parents? It’s a drop-off and pick-up session, so you can enjoy a couple of quiet hours knowing they’re outdoors, off screens and having an experience they’ll probably talk about all day.

Hey everyone!👋

I’ve spent more than 40 years around horses, and one of my favourite things is helping children learn that there’s so much more to them than riding.

Horses communicate constantly through their ears, eyes, body position and even the sounds they make. Once kids start noticing those little things, they begin to understand that being around horses is really a two-way conversation.

During our upcoming school holiday events, the kids get the opportunity to spend genuine hands-on time with our horses and ponies. They might be grooming, washing, braiding and pampering them, doing horse-inspired arts and crafts, learning about their care and behaviour, helping with the everyday jobs involved in looking after them, or enjoying pony rides and arena games.

There aren’t many opportunities for children to experience horses in this way, where the focus isn’t simply getting on and riding, but on actually getting to know the animal in front of them.

That’s something I’m really proud to be able to share with this community.

🎀 Pony Pamper Day – 29 September | Ages 5+

🌾 Stablehand Day – 1 October | Ages 7+
Learn how horses communicate, what they need, how to care for them and what actually goes into looking after them; plus pony rides and arena games.

Both run 9:30am–12pm in Pinjar | $120 + GST per child.

If you’ve got a horse-mad little person, or even a child who has always been curious about horses but hasn’t had much opportunity to be around them, they’re very welcome to come and spend the morning with us.

KJ was keeping a very close eye on the artwork 🎨🐴

Using a familiar horse as the subject turns a simple colouring activity into something much more meaningful.

Activities like this can support:
• Fine motor skills and hand control
• Focus and attention to task
• Colour recognition and decision-making
• Creativity and self-expression
• Building familiarity with the horses and noticing their individual features

At Two Seasons Equine Assisted Learning, learning doesn’t always look like sitting at a desk. Sometimes it’s a clipboard, a handful of pencils and KJ supervising the whole operation from nearby.

A look inside our Friday fortnightly Homeschool Group. 🐴📚

One of the things we focus on is teaching practical horse knowledge, not just spending time with the animals.

Last week's lesson was all about horse tack.

Participants worked together to identify and label each part of the saddle and bridle before discussing the purpose of every piece. From there, they dismantled a bridle, cleaned every component and reassembled it using what they had learned.

Understanding tack is an important part of good horsemanship. It teaches participants how equipment should fit, how to care for it correctly, and why clean, well-maintained tack is essential for a horse's comfort and safety.

These lessons also develop teamwork, communication, problem-solving and confidence, while giving participants practical skills they can continue to build on each week.

Our Homeschool Group is designed to provide genuine education around horses. Participants don't just meet the horses. They learn how to understand them, care for them and work safely alongside them.

A little pamper session with our horse KJ... then it was time to get creative!

We often use art at the end of an Equine Assisted Learning session, not because we're running an art class, but because creativity gives participants another way to process their experience.

Some people talk about what they noticed. Others prefer to show it.

In this session, rainbow colours became the inspiration. After spending time with KJ, those colours flowed into a stencil painting, creating a piece of artwork that was entirely their own.

By carrying the experience into a creative activity, participants have the opportunity to reflect, express themselves and leave with something tangible that represents their session.

No two paintings are ever the same, because no two experiences are. 🌈

Not every Equine Assisted Learning session involves the same activity, and that's intentional. 🌿

Our Pony Pals sessions are designed for two participants, whether they're siblings, friends or peers. Rather than asking both children to complete the same task, we follow their interests and use those moments to create meaningful learning opportunities.

In this session, these two designed their own obstacle course using a red bouncy horse. They decided where each obstacle would go, tested different ideas, changed the course when something didn't work and encouraged each other to keep going.

To many people, that might just look like play.

From an Equine Assisted Learning perspective, it's an opportunity to observe how participants communicate, negotiate, approach challenges, adapt when plans change and work together towards a shared goal.

The horses don't have to be involved every second of every session for the learning to happen. Their presence, the paddock environment and the freedom to explore all form part of the experience.

In Equine Assisted Learning, we intentionally choose activities that create opportunities for learning through interaction with the horse.

While these two participants were decorating KJ's mane and tail, they were also:

• Making shared decisions and negotiating ideas.
• Planning ahead and adapting when things didn't go to plan.
• Developing fine motor skills and coordination.
• Learning to read KJ's body language and adjust their approach accordingly.
• Understanding that working with a horse is built on trust, patience and respect, not force.

The horse is an active participant throughout the session. If KJ became uncomfortable or chose to move away, that would become part of the learning too.

That's what makes Equine Assisted Learning different.

We don't use horses because they're fun (although they certainly are!). We use them because they provide immediate, honest feedback that helps participants develop practical skills, and emotional awareness in a way that's difficult to replicate in a traditional setting.

The bows simply gave us the opportunity to start that conversation. 💙🐴

In this 1:1 Equine Assisted Learning session, creativity took the lead.

China was treated to a colourful pedicure using washable paint, while KJ volunteered his mane for what can only be described as... every bow imaginable. Safe to say he wore them proudly.

While the end result certainly brought plenty of smiles, the value of the session wasn't in the finished look.

Activities like this encourage participants to make choices, plan, problem-solve and express their creativity, all while learning to observe each horse's body language and respond respectfully to what the horse is communicating.

One of the foundations of Equine Assisted Learning is recognising that horses always have a voice. We don't force participation. We watch, we listen, and we adjust. That creates a relationship built on trust rather than compliance.

We don't ask participants to make the horse fit the activity. We adapt the activity to the horse, and teach participants to recognise and respect the horse's communication.

Our Stablehand Days are designed to give children a genuine understanding of what it means to care for a horse.

Throughout the day, participants learn practical stable management skills, assist with everyday jobs around the property, and discover that caring for horses involves patience, responsibility and consistency.

Once KJ's jobs were done, it was time for a well-deserved pamper session. His mane and tail were decorated with colourful bows before he happily soaked up all the extra attention.

Although Two Seasons isn't a riding school, there are times during our Stablehand Days and some individual Equine Assisted Learning sessions where participants may spend time on horseback when it supports the goals of the session.

When we do, the focus isn't on learning to ride, but instead, participants explore how horses respond to posture, balance, breathing and body language. They begin to understand that horses aren't controlled through force, but through clear communication, consistency and trust. Those experiences naturally open conversations about self-awareness, emotional regulation, non-verbal communication and the importance of building relationships through connection rather than control.

It's one more way we use the horse as a teacher.

By the end of the day, our stablehands had learnt practical horse care, spent quality time with KJ, and experienced firsthand that working with horses is about partnership, not simply riding them. 🐴💙
