🌟 A Big Week at Seymour Bowls Club! 🌟
What a week it’s been on the greens — wind, rain, spaghetti, trophies, life memberships and plenty of laughs. If you weren’t here, you missed a beauty.
🎯 Tuesday Jackpot Pairs – 19 May
Twenty four hardy bowlers took on the front synthetic in conditions best described as “character building”. Wind whipping, rain squalling, legs freezing — and yes, a few of us tried hiding under the bank awnings before the icy drips chased us back out again. Despite all that, spirits were high and lunch was very well earned.
🏆 Winners: Dennis Klein & Linda Brown — 3 wins, +24 🥈 Runners up: Ian Ridd & Jan Wesselman — 3 wins, +16
💰 Jackpot: Didn’t go off… rolls over to next week!
❄️ Saturday Winter Social Bowls – 23 May
Cool weather didn’t scare off our Saturday crew — the rinks were full and the competition was lively.
🏆 Winners: Max Hammond, Steve Reed, Bronwyn Allen & Peter Delzotto — 24 points, 14 ends 🥈 Runners up: Helen Flint, Ron Ridd, Bernie Dillon & Maree Maggs — 24 points, 9 ends
Great bowling all round.
🍝 Friday Night Feed
Tony dished up a cracking spaghetti bolognaise to a happy crowd, and the jackpot did go off — so it resets again this week.
🥣 On the menu this Friday: Chicken & vegetable soup. Perfect for the cooler nights.
🏅 AGM & Presentation Day – Sunday 24 May
A wonderful turnout of around 40 members helped celebrate another big year for the club.
The President handed over the reins to Max Hammond to take over, and she was congratulated for her fantastic work as President for the last four years.
🎖️ Life Memberships Awarded
Huge congratulations to Vin Hall, Robert Brown and Linda Brown for their years of dedication and service. A truly special moment.
🥇 Season Champions
Plenty of certificates handed out for all the season's event winners, with a standout performance from Rob Baldwin, who claimed the Men’s Singles, Pairs and Triples — plus teamed with Peter Nichols to win the Goulburn Murray Region Champion of Champions Pairs. Outstanding effort.
👏 Club Persons of the Year
This year we recognised two exceptional volunteers: Marie Maggs and Tony Lee. Their hard work, reliability and behind the scenes contributions keep the club ticking along beautifully. Well deserved.
The afternoon wrapped up with plenty of laughs, good company and a delicious afternoon tea supplied by our wonderful members. A perfect finish to a big day celebrating everything that makes the SBC such a strong and spirited club.
💚 Here’s to another great year ahead!

️ SEYMOUR BOWLS CLUB – FINALS WEEK DRAMA! 🌪️
If you weren’t at the club this weekend… mate, you MISSED A SHOW.
🎭 Friday: Men’s Triples – The Comeback Nobody Saw Coming
The weather behaved (mostly), the sun threw a silver shimmer across the last stubborn leaves on the trees, and the stage was set for a blockbuster.
And then — CHAOS.
The new guard sat on 2 shots for SEVEN ends. Seven! Down 2–9 on the 8th. The old guard looking calm, collected, already smelling the victory snags.
But no. No, no, no.
The young fellas plus one flicked the switch, found the afterburners, and stormed home like a team possessed. End after end, they reeled them in, and by the 18th they’d pinched it 16–13. The crowd went off. The scorecard looked like fiction. The comeback was REAL.
🌬️ Saturday: Jack Sloan & Dot Carroll – Wind, Leaves & Mayhem
Saturday decided to be dramatic too. Gusts up to 21 kph. Lightning fast grass green. Plane tree leaves doing interpretive dance across the rinks like they’d been hired for entertainment.
Every rink full. Four knockout rounds. Tension everywhere.
Finalists:
• Max Hammond vs Derrick Blakeman
• Jan Wesselman vs Maree Maggs
The crowd packed the banks again, braving the wind, the leaves, and the occasional airborne hat. And in the end, Max and Maree handled the chaos best, mastering the tricky conditions and taking home the trophies. Champions.
📣 Club News
• AGM & Trophy Presentations: This Sunday. Bring your applause.
• No Coaching Wednesday: Allison is off doing important Allison things.
• Friday Night: Tony’s pie & pasty night returns. Jackpot’s grown again. Someone could be walking out richer.

🧀 This Week at Seymour Bowls Club — Extra Cheese Edition 🧀
If your garden has been smiling this week, you’re not alone — the Seymour green has been positively purring after that much needed rain. She’s looking well tended, lively, and ready for action ahead of the Men’s Triples this Friday, 15 May. Bring your sunnies; she’s that good.
Meanwhile, Tony Lee continues his reign as Seymour’s unofficial Minister for Deliciousness. Last week’s roast beef and roast pork rolls (with hot gravy and coleslaw, because Tony doesn’t do things by halves) were inhaled with great enthusiasm. The jackpot went off too — and in a moment that deserves its own plaque, the winner shouted all the mums a glass of sparkling wine. A class act, applauded by every mum in the room.
This Friday? Finger food night. Tony’s words. Our stomachs are ready.
On the Green
The Jack Sloan & Dot Carrol 2 Bowl Singles is on Saturday 16 May, starting 10.00 am. Entries close 13 May, so don’t dawdle — get your name in before the draw is done.

🍂 FINALS WEEK + A FAB DAY OUT! 🍂 What a week at Seymour Bowls Club! Autumn turned on its charm — fast green, light breeze, and those Tallarook Street plane trees glowing red and gold. A picture perfect backdrop for some cracking bowls.
🎯 Tuesday 28 April – Two Thrilling Finals
A loyal bunch of spectators gathered to watch two superb contests.
🏆 100 Up Final – Jan Wesselman vs Helen Flint - Jan gave Helen 3 shots on handicap and wiped that out early… but Helen stayed cool, steady and determined. By the 18th end she had taken control, finishing strongly to win 101–76. A brilliant, composed performance.
👩🦳 Women’s Triples Final A great tussle early before the team of Dot Dillon, Gail Krzciuk & Jenny Ridd pulled away to defeat Marie Maggs, Melissa Sellick & Raelene Irby. Quality bowls all round and played in terrific spirit.
🚌 Saturday 2 May – Social Bowls at Bundoora
What a fabulous day out! The Bundoora crew were warm, welcoming and clearly loving their bowls.
🍲 Soup & rolls for lunch 🍰 A top notch afternoon tea 💵 Three cash prizes (with Jan Wesselman’s all girls team taking home the big one!)

🌟 Bowls, Brilliance & Big Moments at Seymour! 🌟
What a week on the greens! If you love bowls, community spirit, or just a good yarn, settle in — Seymour Bowls Club has delivered again.
🎉 Mixed Pairs Magic – Tuesday 21 April
A lively crowd of bowls tragics gathered to watch the Mixed Pairs final, and they weren’t disappointed. Dale Sellick & Helen Flint were simply unstoppable, playing with confidence, class and just a touch of cheek. They proved too strong for Alison Hall & Lloyd Wilson, wrapping things up earlier than expected thanks to some seriously sharp bowling.
The weather was kind, the green was running beautifully, and Dale’s green prepping team deserves a nod — although someone might need a refresher on drawing straight lines…
🥇 100 Up Showdown – Sunday 26 April
Perfect bowls weather. A focused crowd. A classic matchup. On one side: Billy Solomon, multiple 100 Up champion. On the other: Brenton “Crispy” Crispin, new to the format but rising fast.
With Bill giving Crispy a 17 shot handicap, the chase was always going to be tough. Crispy held his nerve, drew beautifully, and showed just how far he’s come — taking the win by more than the handicap margin. A brilliant performance from a bowler on the rise.
🎓 Coaching with Alison – Wednesdays at 4 pm
Huge thanks to Alison Hall, who now runs coaching sessions every Wednesday at 4 pm. Perfect for new, novice and prospective bowlers — learn the right etiquette, avoid bad habits, and enjoy a friendly introduction to the game. Everyone welcome.
🤝 Social Game at Bundoora – Saturday 2 May
Don’t forget our joint social day with Bundoora Bowling Club! 📍 At Bundoora 🕚 11 am start 💲 $10 green fee 🥪 Bring your own lunch ✏️ Names on the noticeboard by Thursday
🍽️ Friday Night Socials – Growing Every Week
A massive thank you to Tony Lee — soup master, organiser, footy tipping wrangler, bar helper and jackpot custodian (still no winner). This Friday’s feast: schnitzels and coleslaw. Bring your appetite and your best banter.
