Update on Husky Venue Change
We’ve taken the time to read through the comments on yesterday’s post, and it’s clear how much the Husky comp means to so many of you.
A lot of the feedback has centred around:
• The great community feel at Husky
• Concerns about travel and convenience
• Disappointment about moving away from a venue that many families love
We completely understand this. The Husky comp has built something really special over the years, and that sense of community is something we are really proud of as well.
That’s why this decision was so difficult.
Unfortunately, ongoing challenges have made it increasingly difficult to run the competition at Husky. These include reliable access to fields, poor lighting, limited amenities, difficulty accessing the canteen and sheds, clashes with other major users like Husky Carnival, and a lack of available senior referees.
This decision is about making sure we can:
• Provide consistent access to fields each week
• Ensure safe, well-lit playing conditions
• Offer reliable amenities for players and spectators
• Support games with experienced referees
Looking ahead, improved lighting and access to more senior referees also puts us in a stronger position to potentially introduce a dedicated seniors comp in the coming years, which is something many have been asking for.
Rugby Park ticks plenty of boxes and is one of the few precincts that can accommodate a minimum of 6 full sized fields.
We know Rugby Park won’t replicate Husky overnight. We also understand the frustration that comes with change.
Our focus is on creating a long-term, sustainable competition where the experience is consistent for everyone.
We’re committed to doing everything we can to bring that same strong community feel across to Rugby Park, and we appreciate your support in helping us get there.
There will be some kids and families that won’t be able to commit to the new venue. This is a real shame. We thank you for your loyalty and passion over the past four years.
