NEW POOL ENCLOSURE WORKS TO START AT SINGLETON GYM + SWIM
The 25m heated pool at Singleton Gym + Swim will close from 9 November 2026 to make way for construction of a new enclosure for the facility.
The pool has been operating on a temporary basis as a heated outdoor facility in recent months, in line with a resolution by Singleton Council that it be operational while a tender process for the replacement structure was finalised.
The tender was awarded at Council’s August meeting.
The new structure will replace the previous 43-year-old dome structure that was demolished in April due to structural issues, and after consideration of a number of options including its ongoing operation as an outdoor facility.
Council’s Acting General Manager Mel Curtis said Council’s objective was to deliver a high quality facility that would meet the community’s needs for another 40 years.
“We are aware that the ongoing closure of the 25m pool has significant impacts for our community, including learn to swim programs, squad training and aqua aerobics and we sincerely regret the inconvenience caused by this situation,” she said.
“We have listened to feedback from our community about their expectations for the 25m pool and have taken that into consideration to deliver the best outcome within a reasonable timeframe.
“We’re looking forward to works commencing on this project and to providing an improved facility for the benefit of our community in mid August 2027, subject to weather conditions and any other unforeseeable circumstances.”
The design for the new Gym and Swim 25m pool enclosure is centred around vaulted glulam timber arches that form the primary structural frame combined with high performance insulated wall and roof systems, carefully integrated glazing and skylights.
The building features natural timber, glass and modern cladding materials to provide a high performing, attractive and welcoming aquatic facility that is intended to become a landmark community asset.
Mrs Curtis said the start of construction coincided with the reopening of the 50m outdoor pool and splashpad at Singleton Gym + Swim for the summer season.
“Council has been and continues to work with Belgravia to minimise disruptions to operations at Singleton Gym + Swim while construction of the 25m pool enclosure is in progress,” she said.
